| Tips to Writing Great Content for your Blog or Website |

Tips to Writing Great Content for your Blog or Website by David Nicolosi - The next time you visit a website, take a moment to stop and ask yourself "why am I visiting this website?" Chances are your answer is going to have something to do with the content. The fact is, content is king. Having the most unique and informative content that is relevant to your genre of website will greatly increase user retention. We'll discuss some key components to keeping your website content fresh and keeping it relevant!
Choose a Topic You're An Expert In Consider this. You have just discovered the world of online affiliation where you can make money through advertisements placed on your website. You see advertisements on just about every web page on the net these days, mostly in the form of Google AdSense. "Open a Google AdSense account and start earning commissions today!" Sure, it sounds great and it can be very profitable, but the mistakes many new webmasters will make is choosing a market that they feel will make them a quick buck rather than choosing something they are passionate about. The result of this over-enthusiasm for capital gain is typically a website that lacks originality, style, and quality content. You'll find that the key to success is providing users with a quality site where content is your main focus. Once you've established a niche that you feel comfortable in and can showcase a strong knowledge on your subject matter, content will come easy.
Enlist The Help of Ghost Writers Writing quality content can be time consuming. The more ambitious your site is, the more quality content you'll need to provide. Don't be afraid to enlist the help of Ghost Writers to help you fill those empty pages. As long as you enlist the help of others who are experts in your chosen website category, you'll be well off with the additional content writers. Try asking some colleagues if they'll write an article or two, post messages on forums stating that you're looking for a content writer. Of course not everyone is willing to help without some form of compensation. If you site offers services that users typically pay for, try offering those services to a select few friends or colleague for free in exchange for articles and content.
Be Your Own Worse Critic When it comes down to the quality of your content, be your own worse critic. Be nitpicky about every little nuance and aspect of every sentence you write down. Read it several times over, making sure it's relaying effectively the message you're trying to get across. When in doubt, have a friend or co-worker read through your content and get their honest opinions. You only have a few seconds to make an impression on your users, so never publish anything that is less than perfect. Your goal is to make sure your content contains useful and quality information without error before being seen by visitors of your site. Also, make sure to run your article through a spell check (such as with MS Word) before publishing it.
Add Something New Each Day A website that remains static will not retain users. It's fact. For your website to keep generating repeat traffic, you need to give your users something new each day. They will need to see constant changes, new articles, and up to the minute news and information so they will be intrigued in coming back. Never fall into a comfort zone where you feel you can "wait another day" to update your site. You can be sure of one thing, if you're not on top of your website, the competition will be!
Write Your Content For Users, Not Search Engines Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is important to search engines, content is important to users. Do not confuse the two. Content should be written with the user in mind, without thinking about how it will impact search engines. Content written for search engines usually are comprised of keyword stuffing (repetitiveness of key words), which more often that not will make the content neither useful nor particularly enjoyable to read. You will be doing a disservice to yourself and your users if you write your content for search engines.
By focusing on the user you'll soon reap the benefits of quality content that was written with passion and knowledge. Over time you'll find that you'll receive residual traffic as other webmasters link to your site, users post your URL in forums, and word of mouth spreads. Although content is just one component to generating traffic to your site (you still need to apply SEO), it will ensure that the traffic you do get keeps coming back for more. Interested In Increasing Your Search Engine Ranking? by John Hayward - The methods employed to increase your search engine rankings may seem like rocket science to you, so you have probably avoided dealing with this issue. I am here to tell you - the time has come to face your website! A high search engine ranking for your website is so essential that if you have the slightest desire to actually succeed in your business, there is no way you can continue to avoid this issue. At least 85% of people looking for goods and services on the Internet find websites through search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. The idea of optimizing your pages for high search engine rankings is to attract targeted customers to your site who will be more than likely to make a purchase. The higher your page comes up in search engine results, the greater the traffic that is directed to your website. That's what search engine optimization is about. You can immerse yourself in all the technical information available online to figure out how to optimize your web pages to achieve higher rankings. Or you can look at a few simple items on your pages, make some small adjustments, and most likely see improved rankings quite rapidly. The first item you should examine is the title bar on your homepage. The title bar is the coloured bar at the top of the page. Look at the words that appear there when you access your home page. To increase search engine rankings, the words on your homepage's title bar should include the most important keywords or phrases, one of which would include your company name. Then click on all your links and examine the title bars on the pages you access. Each title bar on every single page of your site should contain the most important keywords and phrases taken from the page itself. However, avoid very long strings of keywords, keeping them to six words or less. Avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other. The next item to put under your microscope is your website content. Search engines generally list sites that contain quality content rather than scintillating graphics. The text on your site must contain the most important keywords - the words that potential customers will be typing into search engines to find your site. Aim to have around 250 words on each page, but if this is not desirable due to your design, aim for at least 100 carefully chosen words. If you want to achieve a high ranking on search engines, this text is essential. However, the search engines must be able to read the text, meaning that the text must be in HTML and not graphic format. To find out if your text is in HTML format, take your cursor and try to highlight a word or two. If you are able to do this, the text is HTML. If the text will not highlight, it is probably in graphic form. In this case, ask your webmaster to change the text into HTML format in order to increase your search engine rankings. Next we come to what is called meta tags. I know this sounds like something out of science fiction, but it is really just simple code. Many people believe that meta tags are the key to high search engine rankings, but in reality, they only have a limited effect. Still, it's worth adding them in the event that a search engine will use meta tags in their ranking formula. To find out if your page is set up with meta tags, you must access the code. To do this, click the "view" button on the browser menu bar, and select "source." This will pull up a window revealing the underlying code that created the page. If there are meta tags, they usually appear near the top of the window. For example, a meta tag would read: meta name="keywords" content=. If you do not find code that reads like this, ask your webmaster to put them in. This may not do much for your search engine rankings, but any little boost helps. Lastly, we come to the issue of link popularity. This is a factor that is extremely important in terms of search engine rankings. Almost all search engines use link popularity to rank your website. Link popularity is based on the quality of the sites you have linked to from your links page. If you type in "free link popularity check" in a popular search engine, the search engine will then show you what sites are linked to your site. In the case that there aren't many sites linked up to yours, or that the sites that are linked up have low search engine rankings, consider launching a link popularity campaign. Essentially, this entails contacting quality sites and requesting that they exchange links with your site. Of course, this requires checking out the rankings of the websites you want to link up with. Linking to popular, quality sites not only boosts your search engine ranking, but it also directs more quality traffic to your website. Search engine rankings are extremely important for a successful Internet marketing campaign. Before you go out and hire a search engine optimization company, try taking some of the simple steps listed above, and see if you can't boost your rankings yourself. Don't ever ignore this all-important factor in Internet marketing. Remember, the higher your search engine ranking, the more quality customers will be directed your way. | The secret link building roadmap used by SEOs |
| 06.09.06 (1:53 pm) [edit] |
The secret link building roadmap used by SEOs by noel bautista - Search engines are the front door to the Internet. It is the very first tool that potential customers use to find the products and services they need. This is why search engine optimization is a must and one of the strategies for ranking is through link building. If the customers do not find your website, you have no possibilities of making any sales. Link popularity refers to the ranking assigned to your website by the search engines, and it determines the ranking your page gets when keywords are entered into a search engine. So, you're probably wondering, how do I make my link popular? Search engines are discretionary, giving status and ranking to sites that have links to their pages from related, quality sites. Nobody knows what the exact algorithm used by these search engines. But their goal is simple, to get the most relevant websites on the top of the search engine results. The more commonly used your keyword is, the harder it will be to achieve link popularity, but without achieving this step, it is almost certain your site will never rank highly on any search engine. There are a few things you should be aware of. The first is that just linking up with a large number of other websites will not achieve link popularity. In fact, it may have quite the opposite effect. This is particularly true when pertaining to websites that are nothing more than "link farms" - pages containing line after line of indiscriminate links. Search engines may aggressively discriminate against your website if you are associated with a link farm, so steer clear of them! The next thing to bear in mind is the quality of the site you are linking to. Never link to a page you have reservations about your visitors seeing. The last thing you want your website to appear as is indiscriminate and cheap. Linking to sites of poor quality will only lessen your link popularity, if not completely destroy it. So how do you know if it is a poor quality website? Read their content. Is it something that your visitors would find useful? So what is the best roadmap for link popularity building? The first step, and the fastest way to get your foot in the door, is to get a listing in a popular directory, such as Open Directory Project and Yahoo. If your site is business-related, you will want to be listed on Yahoo, and despite the fact that it will cost you around $300 a year, it will be money well spent. If your site is non-commercial, the listing will be free, but it will take time and follow-up to actually get it listed. Open Directory is gives you a free listing whether you are business-related or non-commercial, but be prepared to make a lot of follow-up inquiries before you see your site listed. The second step after you have attained directory listings is to locate other quality sites to exchange links with. Try to find sites that are in some way related to yours, so not only will your link popularity increase, but your customer base may also be expanded. You want to avoid your competitors and look for sites that are useful to your site's visitors. Obviously, not all sites want to link to other sites, so you will have to do some research when you are looking for possible linking partners. Google is an excellent starting place for your search. Make sure you enter keywords that you think quality customers will also enter to find your own site. After you decide you have found a good prospect, you must set out to woo them. The first thing to do is to add a link on your own links page to their site. This is an essential first step; it shows good faith, and ups your chances significantly of their reciprocity. After you have added their link, you must contact the webmaster of their site. Since this is almost always done by email, you want to make sure it is immediately clear that your message is not junk mail. This requires that you tell them right off the bat that you have added a link to their page on your site. A hook like this almost always insures the reader will read on. Next, be sure to be flattering and let them know how much you appreciate their website. Make sure you emphasize that you have actually visited their site, and that their site is not just a random pick. Say something like "I personally like your logo with your name on it" or something that would really show them that you really visited their site. Give them the address of your links page, and ask them to check out the link for themselves. It's a good idea to mention that they will not only benefit from the increased traffic your website will direct their way, but you will also increase their link popularity. Briefly, explain why link popularity is so essential, but do this in a sentence or two so you don't sound like a professor! Finally, tell them you would greatly appreciate if they would reciprocally add a link on their own links page to your website. Repeat this process with as many appropriate sites as you can find, bearing in mind the criteria of quality and non-competitiveness. After you have emailed all relevant sites, be sure to check these website frequently to see if they have added a link to your page. Give it about a month, and if no link appears, try another charming email. Then give it another month, and if your site is still absent from their links page, it's time to remove their link from your own links page. Be sure to set up a schedule to check your ranking in search engines frequently to see if your link popularity has improved. This is not achievable in the blink of an eye. It will take some time and a good deal of work. There is no way around the labor-intensive quality of improving your link popularity, which is why search engines regard it with such importance. The secret is that there is no secret to link building. You just have to really work for it. You can also outsource it to some country with cheap labor. Not of course you want a black hat alternative. Noel Bautista is a search engine optimizer, and internet marketer. | Getting Started With Google Adsense |
| 06.06.06 (11:44 am) [edit] |
|
Getting Started With Google Adsense by Douglas Titchmarsh - It's probably one of the hottest topics out there, and with good reason. Where else can you get paid over and over again for doing something once? Of course I'm talking about Googles Adsense program, for website publishers who don't mind placing a small bit of code into their sites to show ads in return for a share of the profits. It's relatively easy to get started with Google Adsense, as all you need to have is a website or blog on which to show the Adsense ads, and a Google Adsense Publishers Account. To get an Adsense account you need to go to Google.com/adsense and apply for an account, as long as your website complies with their terms, you will be accepted and be able to log in to create your Adsense ads. If you don't have a website, you can setup a blog for free at http://www.tBlog.com" title="http://www.tBlog.com" target="_blank"http://www.tBlog.com - http://www.blogger.com" title="http://www.blogger.com" target="_blank"http://www.blogger.com or http://www.beeplog.com" title="http://www.beeplog.com" target="_blank"http://www.beeplog.com put up some content, and submit this. Blogger.com is also owned by Google, and some people claim this gives you a better chance of acceptance, whether it does or not you decide for yourself. On the other hand Blogger is VERY quick (too quick many say) in erasing any blogs in case somebody flags them for bad content or abuse of spam, and the blogmaster is never notified about the issue. This means even if you are NOT spamming, if any bad competitor of enemy of yours flags your account against Google for misuse of whatever kind, chances are very high that Blogger will erase your account without any single notification or warning to you. All your blogentries, work and efforts will be gone in a single minute. To avoid this dang er and to be on the safe side we recommend better to sign up with tBlog.com or Beeplog.com that seem to be the two best free blogspace alternatives to us. They both of course fight spam as well, but are not too fizzled about any small mistake one may do. Also you´ve got more detailed setup and design features to include your ads in easily, is it AdSense or any other sort of advertisement. For the next part, once you are logged in you need to choose what type of ads to display, link units are just one line links to sites related to your sites keywords, ad units are the blocks of code you see everywhere with a short description, a link and a url for each site advertised. Once you have chosen which ad type to display, you can then choose the size and format of the Adsense box. This is where you must make a decision to ensure it fits in with your site, where you are going to place it. Be aware that irregular sized and shaped adsense boxes work better than the regular ad sizes, 468x60 is immediately picked up as an ad due to banners being this size for so long online and has a low clickrate, while the 336x280 and 300x250 adsense blocks work much better. There is also some arguments as to whether you should blend the ad into your site by using the color palette Adsense gives you to edit the ads colours to make the colours the same as your site, or to make them stand out by making them a different colour, this will depend on your site, and you can test to see what works best. After you have setup the format, colour scheme and type of ad, you will get the code to add to your site. Before you go ahead and paste it in, it's a good idea to setup channel tracking. Setup different channels named so that you will know what it is about, and this will enable you to track which ads are working, on which sites by changing them around, and tagging them with different channel ID's. This is one of the most overlooked parts of Adsense, the ability to track your ads through channels affords you the ability to test and tune to get the ideal colours, and placement for your adsense blocks. Adsense does a good job of finding ads related to your site, and you have no input into what will be shown. Sometimes it gets confused, so you may have to tweak your sites copy to make the keywords more prominent so Adsense can do a better job of targeting your visitors with the ads displayed. Obviously the better the ads target your visitors, the more relevant they will be and the better the clickthrough rate. As we already said, Adsense is a great way to make some income, and some people are even making a good living from it, it's residual income, fairly easy to setup and low maintenance. If nothing else it will help pay the hosting fees for your website, so why not get started with Google Adsense today? Douglas Titchmarsh publishes his own newsletter at http://www.thediscountebookstore.com/blog" title="http://www.thediscountebookstore.com/blog" target="_blank"http://www.thediscountebookst... and recommends Joel Comms' Adsense Secrets ebook for people who wish to make more money from Adsense http://www.cashinonline.info/recommends/adsensese crets.php" title="http://www.cashinonline.info/recommends/adsensese crets.php" target="_blank"http://www.cashinonline.info/... | How to Run an Online Contest on Your Website |

How to Run an Online Contest on Your Website by Erum Zehra - A contest is a great way to attract traffic to your website. However, handling contests manually can become very difficult if you receive a huge number of entries. Here's a secret: You can use follow up autoresponders to automate the dreary tasks involved in running a contest. All you have to do is set up your contest once and the follow-up autoresponder will take care of the rest. Choose an autoresponder service The first step is to get an autoresponder service. You need a service with the following features: Personalization You should be able to place codes in your message which get replaced by the subscriber's info. This way the message will have their name and other details. Subscription Form The autoresponder should let you generate a subscription form with multiple fields. You should be able to add your own custom questions to the subscription form. Automated and Manual Messages You should be able to set up autoresponder messages and send out manual messages. (Ecourse wizard at this URL: http://www.ecoursewizard.com/features.php" title="http://www.ecoursewizard.com/features.php" target="_blank"http://www.ecoursewizard.com/... offers all the above features and a lot more) Set up the contest form Decide on the questions you will ask your contest participants. Then enter these questions in the custom fields of your autoresponder service. A sign up form containing these questions will be generated. Place the code of this form in the HTML coding of your web page and upload it. Your contest questionnaire will appear on your website. Make sure you inform your visitors that entering the contest will also subscribe them to your list. Set up your welcome message Set up a "welcome message" or a "thank you message" for entering the contest in your autoresponder account. This will be pasted in the first window of the autoresponder message sequence. It will be sent immediately when someone fills and submits your contest form. You can add more messages and set up the number of days after which each message will be sent. These can be a follow-up of your contest or any other info you want to pass on to the contest entrant. Personalize your messages Most autoresponder services let you customize the emails that go out by putting in generic fields like ~~First Name~~ which will get replaced by the first name of the contest entrant. They will think you sent them a personal message and pay more attention to it, when in reality the whole process is automatic. How the process works If people want to enter your contest they will have to fill up the contest form. As soon as they fill the form and send it, they will receive the first autoresponder message. They will keep receiving the follow-up messages that you have added after your welcome message until they unsubscribe or the message sequence comes to an end. Ending the Online Contest The announcement of the winner or the ending of the contest can be sent via the manual message option in your autoresponder account. You can also personalize this manual message. Gather valuable visitor information When your visitors enter your contest, their answers will get saved. You can view all the information they submitted in your autoresponder account. (You can also download this information). Once the contest is over you will have the whole list of contest entrants saved in your autoresponder account. You can now send them manual messages and manage them easily, through the autoresponder service. You can gain a huge number of subscribers to your list in this way, and use this list to promote your product or service. | The Da Vinci Code of Search Engine Optimization |
| 06.03.06 (6:08 am) [edit] |
|
The Da Vinci Code of Search Engine Optimization by Christopher Conlan - I recently signed a new client for Search Engine Optimization Services (that's what we do). The problem, same as always was she wanted $10,000 worth of optimization on a $200 a month budget. I was groovin' on her style and liked her can do attitude. We put together a program. She has a unique selling proposition, competitively priced products, and is in a relatively crowded marketspace. Her website was built on the cheap, but is structurally sound. She's been playing around with FrontPage and can at least create new pages from old ones, change images, add new content and publish her changes. Sounds good so far. Right? Just enough knowledge to get into trouble! Leonardo Da Vinci once said "Savage is he who saves himself". So in the spirit of Hollywood here's the Da Vinci Code for helping out your SEO Expert, reducing your Search Engine Positioning costs and maximizing your website return on investment. This is a recipe so to speak, so follow the instructions. Da Vinci Code #1 Existing Content. Using your favorite HTML editor (we'll use FrontPage for this exercise) do some basic on page SEO. Using the bold feature (the "B" at the top of the page) bold the keywords in your content. Don't do crazy, but try to "highlight" at least 3 or 4 times per page. Feel free to mix it up for readability and use italics instead of bold (the "I" at the top of the page). Just like your reader, the search engines take notice of words in bold and italics when used for emphasis. Da Vinci Code #2 Find the hidden treasure in your images. Search engines could care less about your images or what your site looks like. To them they're just code. So give them the code they're looking for. Using the right click button, right click on your favorite image, select "Picture Properties", click on "General". Give your image a name related to your keywords, example: search_engine_optimizatio n.jpg. Put at least one keyword in the "text section", then write a keyword rich description of the image. Now the search engines can read the "code" of your image. Da Vinci Code #3 New Content. Hopefully your SEO Expertwill have done some in depth keyword research for you. Pick 10 keywords that you want to target. Now create a page for each keyword set. Start creating a new page of content from one of your existing pages in FrontPage by highlighting the HTML file in the left hand column. Right click and select "New from Existing Page". This preserves your existing layout and saves you from having to recreate a whole new layout/theme if you're not experienced with CSS. I know that every SEO guru and web design grandmaster's head just exploded, but remember this is YOU saving YOU, not THEM billing YOU. You can fix the architecture when you start realizing gains from your efforts. Start writing. I prefer to divide my keywords up into three tiers. (1) The keyword you use thematically throughout your site - the tough one that everybody is chasing (link a few of these back to your home page - see #4). Example: Search Engine Optimization is a tier one word. (2) The keyword that THIS page is about Example: Pay Per Click. (3) A localized version of both - Example: Arizona Search Engine Optimization and Scottsdale Pay Per Click. Da Vinci Code #4 Link Building. Charity begins at home. Make sure you have an internal linking strategy. Link back from internal content pages to your home page or to other internal content pages. In Front Page, make sure to take advantage of the Screen Tip function (in the top right hand corner of the hyperlink popup box). Put in the keyword relevant to that hyperlink. Link building is a science to a certain degree, but you can help out your SEO Expert by going old school. Ask your suppliers, customers and friends who have websites to link to your site - then mix and match when those sites are linking to your site. Don't have every link go straight to your home page. Da Vinci Code #5 Become an Expert. Believe it or not, someone out there actually is looking for the knowledge and experience you already have. Write an article for your blog, share it with your competitor, syndicate it (ask your SEO or emarketing consultantant about strategy here). This is great for the double whammy of link building and traditional "how to" marketing. Check out Ezinearticles.com or GoArticles. They are good places to start becoming an expert. Include these "articles" or "press releases" as new pages of content on your site. If you are willing, and have the time, you can help your SEO Expertmake you successful and reduce your costs. Always remember that Search Engine Optimization is an ongoing process and results take time, so be patient. And be savage about it!

| Why are Search Engines Purging ODP Clone Websites? |
| 06.02.06 (9:31 am) [edit] |
|
Why are Search Engines Purging ODP Clone Websites? by Megrisoft Team - There are lot of websites which are fully or partially clone of ODP (Open Directory Project). These websites or part section of websites, which are using ODP script to reformat the data on there site are useless and they have no original new contents. It is learnt that search engine specially Google is purging or banning such kind of sites. Why search engines are against Dmoz clone sites? Is the data in them not worthwhile or are they been misused by site owner's? We will try to find our reason, but before that let us first understand all about Dmoz Directory
What is Dmoz Directory (ODP) The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory on the web. It is owned by "Time Warner" and constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors, and is truly unique in many ways. The Open Directory, also known as DMOZ (the domain name of ODP), is a large, categorized directory of websites and pages, which is staffed by volunteers. Every website and page that is added to the directory has to be manually reviewed before it is included. Since its index is manually constructed and edited, categorization and relevancy is superior to any other index of its kind and equally as unique, is the fact that this data is open and free to the public for replication. As of July 2005, ODP had about 4.6 million listings organized into over 580,000 categories derived from the contributions of some 69,000 editors.
How is this free data been used to make Dmoz Clone? There are a lot of ODP scripts to make clone of the ODP. These scripts enables you to add live data of the Open Directory Project at dmoz.org to your own website using a very easy to customize template based system. Users can browse and search categories of websites. These scripts that grabs live contents of the Open Directory dynamically and formats them to make your own version of the Open Directory. These are small scripts have few files to just uploaded on your server and you can get Thousands of Dmoz directory pages on your site in your own templates design. These scripts just get live data from Dmoz.org and it has no original new contents.
Does Dmoz Clone bring traffic? Webmaster do not like Dmoz clone websites as they have not original content rather have duplicate contents and no body will like to link a site or vote a site which has duplicate contents. Most people will not even browse your directory. Most people will just browse 2-10 pages of your directory, they will just leave and never come back.
Why Search Engines are against Dmoz Clone?
There are various reasons which are explained as:
- There is no Original Content which is required to make a Quality Site.
- Duplicate contents as all scripts extract live data from Dmoz and create thousands of similar pages on the web.
- The Dmoz directory has more than 580,000 categories If thousands of site will grab the live contents from Dmoz it will results into creation of millions of similar pages which is making web a junkyard of similar pages with nothing new.
- The Dmoz clone sites has thousands of pages created on fly with no extra hardwork and lot of spammer are using it for advertising or Google adsense program
- The lot of webmaster has just created a section of Dmoz to get inbound links from thousands of pages to increase link popularity and search engine ranking

Which kind of Dmoz clone Search Engine's will Like Search engines are concerned with presenting quality results to there users If you can modify and enhance the data retrieved from Dmoz and present in unique format it will definitely be preferred by Search Engines, Webmaster and Web Surfers. Google has got its own directory for which it has got data from Dmoz but enhanced by Google technology i.e ranking of sites on each directory page by Page Rank.
Using ODP Clone Scripts just to make simple odp clone will get your site banned from search engines due to duplicate contents. Therefore it is advised not to use this virtually useless script on important sites or sites that rank well on search engines. Lot of ODP Clone Scripts makers sites were banned, because too many websites with duplicate content ( as they all have Dmoz clone) were linked to them. These scripts owner require there site URL to be linked at the footer as "Powered by ..." Which results into link farming or inbound links from similar pages.
