Search Engine Optimization 101: The Very Basics - Make Money Online by Holly Mann
Raising your website's position on the Search Engines is increasingly important as thousands of new websites are created each day and many may be in competition with yours. The more sites added to the World Wide Web, the more expensive advertising costs will be. Don't get trapped into spending hundreds of dollars per day, per week or per month for advertising.
The purpose of optimizing your website is so that Search Engines can easily search your site, navigate throughout and categorize it. As well as creating a graphically appealing informative site for your visitors, you need to concentrate on building a strong keyword-based theme throughout the site. Search Engines are large databases of Web sites that are automatically generated. These Internet search engines use a software robot or spider that seeks out and indexes Web sites. Yahoo, Google, MSN, Excite, AltaVista, AskJeeves are some of the popular Search Engines. To produce accurate search results, search engines must keep their ranking algorithms (formulas) secret.
--- DreamweaverMadeSimple. Dreamweaver Interactive Video Tutorial and eBook. ---
Search engine optimization begins with choosing keywords and key phrases. This is an important first-step and goes hand-in-hand with developing your website theme and choosing a domain name. Before choosing your key phrases, you should check out your competing websites. You cannot optimize your website to reach its highest position without understanding exactly how your competitor's websites reached theirs. Your website should have a clear theme. And your keywords must describe the theme of your site, as well as help your website reach the highest results when queried on the search engines. This is so important for two reasons.
One, is because Pay-Per-Click Advertising can be extremely costly. Two, is because the majority of the people who are looking for a product or information on the search engines do NOT click on the sponsored ads. Instead, they click on the freely placed non sponsored websites. Your goal should be to reach the top 10-15 placements in the non sponsored websites. Before choosing a domain name for your website or company, think about the keywords you may be targeting. While you may think you have a great domain name now, it may not include your important keywords in the URL (http://www.KeywordDomain.com" title="http://www.KeywordDomain.com" target="_blank"http://www.KeywordDomain.com).
Sites with the keyword in the domain tend to rank higher than domains without the keywords. The next step is to gather material for your website and put it all together so it is graphically appealing, not only for site visitors but for search engines as well. This step may take quite a lot of time, and is usually ongoing, as it is important to continually add, edit and update your site. Every piece of text you add to your website should be supporting the site's overall theme. Now it is of paramount importance to spread the word about your website and create high-quality optimized links to and from your website to help increase your website's page rank.

| Powerful and Effective Link Building - Catapult Your Search Engine Rankings |

SEO: Powerful and Effective Link Building - Catapult Your Search Engine Rankings
One of the most powerful aspects of Search Engine Optimization is link building. Proper link building for the purpose of rankings uses Targeting Links. Targeting Links are one of the most effective approaches, as the links pass PageRank, and are already proven to rank your competitors. The "Old School" terminology for this approach is called "Stealing your competitors rankings".
Top Anchor Text that you want to use on your link on these targeted websites.
Now that we have your keyword target, we need to consider whether the link is really a quality link, or a spam site. Determining this is harder for the layman than the experienced marketer as some sites that show in the backlinks are obvious spammers or websites that are trying to make a buck from Pay Per Click advertising. As a general rule these have low or no PageRank (PageRank 0/10), and always have a ton of ads first. Ignore these links, as they will be temporary or detrimental to this process. Finding the quality websites in your competitors backlinks is very important. You need to weed out the garbage.
--- Earn MONEY with Your BLOG or Homepage! Join Google AdSense ---
Choose the websites that have some PageRank and appear to be quality sites, if you find some sites in common when checking backlinks on multiple competitors, then those are the important links, and you should do whatever you have to do to get a link from it. Consider a reciprocal if all else fails.
Now the hard part, how do you get your link on their page next to your competitor? How can you get the link to you without returning it? Since everyone is so link popularity aware, you need to present a quality proposal to the webmaster to gain a link. You need to be a quality addition for the webmaster to want to add the link. Nowadays, it's rare that any site will give a link without returning one. In 1999 before the Link Popularity Search Engines, this was not the case, webmasters linked to whoever they wanted to and paid no attention to reciprocal link exchanges. So how can we get a link without returning one?
Here's a smart approach. For any link that you are targeting, you really need to try and attempt to offer the webmaster a real reason on why he should add the link. Proving that your website is a valuable resource and one-of-a-kind, is a possible way to still get a free link, and a free targeted link is a powerful link. One-way links are important for any site as it is the model of the Authority Domains. These sites have hundreds to thousands of one-way links, and very few if any reciprocal links. So you should try through whatever methods of one-way link building that you want to use, to get these targeted links without reciprocating. But a reciprocal link is better than no link.
Combine this method with blind link building (random reciprocals links), press releases and even article writing (like this one) and your site will achieve better rankings, better traffic and if your site is truly effective...it will prosper.

5 Fast SEO Tricks for Keywords & Traffic
It seems as though every [wo]man and his/her dog either has a website, wants a website, or is talking about websites.
One of the most frequent questions I get is, *How do I use keywords?*.
Good question.
* * * * * * * * *
[I bet others of you are asking,
*What's a keyword?*. A keyword
or keyword phrase is what people
type into a search engine
to find websites.]
* * * * * * * * *
But let me first ask another ... how many people in the known universe [who have a website] might use the same keywords as you?
Ten? A hundred? A thousand? More?
OK - let's assume it's a hundred other websites, all vying for the same keywords as yours. When you do a search on a search engine [for example google.com] you get *ten* results on page one.
That's right. Ten. Out of a hundred possible competitor pages.
Last time YOU did a search for anything, how many search engine Results pages did you laboriously flick through? One? Two? Five?
Yeah, that's right ... boring if the answer isn't on page one, isn't it?
* * * * * * * * *
So what's my point??
* * * * * * * * *
Well, instead of trying to appear in the first 10 results for one specific keyword or phrase [which is already overpopulated with competitors], why not choose another phrase?
Instead of the *exact* phrase you think is the most important, you might be surprised to discover you could choose a different phrase, which is searched just as often, but which you hadn't thought of targetting.
--- The Rich Jerk - I´m Better than You! How to earn real money from Home...! ---
Think outside the box - if you're selling *monkey shoes*, and goodness knows there might be a lot of competitors for that :o>, narrow it down and add some focus. Where are your customers? Are they looking for you in your town, or State? If yes, add the name of your town or State to the keyword phrase you use in your webpages. Or is there something else *unique* about *monkey shoes*? If yes, use that in the keyword phrase.
I just searched for: monkey shoes
and discovered there are 3,300,000 results. Phew! Over 3 million!!
What would your potential customer type in that search box to narrow down *their* search? What about: monkey climbing shoes, or shoes for one-legged monkeys
That narrows it down considerably.
OK - so you're not selling *monkey shoes*, but you are trying to get people to your website. Here are a few things you can do to set up your keywords in your webpage, and to bring visitors from unexpected sources ...
* * * * * * * * *
On your webpage/s
* * * * * * * * *
1. Put the keyword phrase on your page four times.
You don't want to overdo it, it must read well.
2. Put the phrase in the two of the metatags.
Use the TITLE, KEYWORDS or DESCRIPTION metatags.
3. Put an image at the top of your page. In the ALT tag for your image, add the keyword phrase at the beginning, like a description. For example:
4. Use you main phrase as the first heading at the top of your page, in the H1 tag.
5. Write an article related to your *phrase* and post on at least 5 f-r-e-e article banks.
You can find a list of those here:
http://tinyurl.com/8otfd" title="http://tinyurl.com/8otfd" target="_blank"http://tinyurl.com/8otfd
* * * * * * * * *
That's a few small steps towards optimising your pages for search engines, so do this for each of your web pages, and you're well on your way!
--- Google Profits. How to Make Massive Profits Combining the Power of Google and CB. --
Writing the articles is a fantastic way to bring web traffic to your site but only write about things you know or are familiar with, otherwise the words won't flow, and it won't be enjoyable to read.
If you're lucky, your article might be picked up by more article banks and other websites, who want to have it in their own list of articles. Remember to put a Resource Box at the bottom with your contact details.
I wrote an article called *17 Tips to Plan a Website*. Within a month it had been snapped up by 800+ websites - wow! The power of the internet! This one article brings traffic to my site 24/7. Now do you feel like writing an article or two? It is certainly worth the effort - my article is proof of that!
* * * * * * * * *
Enjoy your website tweaking and your article writing, I look forward to seeing you in print real soon! Let me know how much your traffic improves over the next month.
Cheers Teena!

Blonde Core - Super Blondes in Action
Finding Time for Romance
In this day and age who can find time for themselves let alone their main squeeze. If you find yourself wrapped up in the toils of everyday life and yearn for more sweet lovin' then here is some advice to follow. First and foremost, make time. No excuse will do, we can all spare at least one hour a day to prioritize on the people who matter most in our lives. Put aside cleaning the fridge, washing your car or going shopping, a dirty house will never be more important than a healthy loving relationship.
Create your own couple's ritual to savor on a daily basis. Either sit down for tea or coffee after the dishes are done and catch up on daily events, even if you can only spare 10 minutes. Keep a chalk board by the door and make a habit of writing one note a day to each other before leaving for work. You don't have to be Shakespeare, a simple "I love you" or a zany "later, sweet cheeks" are sure to brighten your darling's day.
--- Squirting - Feamale Orgasm Revealed ---
Never underestimate the importance of doing the little things. You don't need to perform huge romantic acts on a daily basis. Drawing your partner a bath, picking up a C.D they wanted or rubbing your partners aching feet are romantic gestures that reassert a nurturing bond.
Freeing up quality time can be as easy as turning off the T.V or Computer for one hour to go for a walk around the block. Plan to at least have one date out of the house each month, try a new restaurant or pub. If your partner is a workaholic and chained to they're desk then meet them for a lunch date instead of dinner or set aside a designated time to chat on-line. One sure fire way of having time for romance is by participating in a hobby you both enjoy. Choose a martial art's class, bowling league, playing pool or joining a gym together.
Once you've found the time for each other, you'll agree that nothing else matters, not the job or the chores or the T.V series you had to tune into. Enjoy your life with the person you love! after all... the couple that plays together, stays together!

| Independent Back Linking Network |
| 11.19.05 (12:55 am) [edit] |

Independent Back Linking Network
The Basics
Link popularity is something all websites need to meet the ranking criteria for most major search engines. While quantity is important, so is the quality and the reputation of the link.
Running a linking campaign is a tedious but important process. There are many back linking pitfalls and with Google's Jagger Update we will certainly see some serious shifts in the SERP's.
What is an Independent Back Linking Network?
An Independent Back Linking Network, or IBLN, is a relatively new term and it does have a bad connotation. Conceptually, it seems, linking sites together is what the World Wide Web is all about. As the information on the Internet amasses, rules needed to put in place to control relevancy. Then people started to break the rules. We call them spammers, or black-hatters; people who exploit the criteria to work in their favour. When this becomes out of control the search engines must react in order to produce quality results.
An Independent Back Linking Network occurs when sites sit within the same IP range, specifically sharing the same C-class, then all back link together excessively. If two websites have the same C-class, it means that the first three parts of the IP address are the same. For example, 211.68.11.76 and 211.68.11.75 have the same C-class. On the other hand, 211.68.22.76 and 211.68.32.75 have different a C-class because the third set of numbers is different.
Most website owners have no control over the IP address or C-class they are allocated for their websites. Search engines may identify and penalise clusters of websites linking to each other from the same IP Block or C-class. This may be because this kind of back linking looks unnatural and also looks like it is done for the sake of increasing link popularity and search engine rank rather than relevancy. This theory, however, has not been proven yet and no major search engine has spoken about this clearly.

How is an Independent Back Linking Network created?
AAA Web Designs develops and hosts websites that happen to be in the same industry - it is their specialty. There are more than 500 sites created that use IP addresses within the same range and all of them share the same C-Class. All of the sites are also back linked together because they are complimentary to each other. These sites also have a link back to the website (again, within a complimentary industry) that is AAA Web Designs biggest client.
AAA Web Design inadvertently created an Independent Back Linking Network and guess what? AAA's biggest client is now banned on Yahoo! The real problem is, while AAA was trying to "do the right thing" many optimisers are not by creating this type of independent back linking network. Taken a step further, what if the site you have hosted is sharing the C-class of an IP block that has a banned site?

| Search Engine Optimization - It's All About Words |
| 11.19.05 (12:51 am) [edit] |
|
Search Engine Optimization - It's All About Words
I'd like to talk a little about words. In particular, I'd like to talk about a special category of words. Words that you may not suspect are important, vital really, to your online business success.
Not too long ago the promise, heard round the world was, "Build it and they will come." Today, with somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 billion websites already indexed by the search engines, and the number growing so rapidly that some are betting big bucks on the number doubling each year, for many years to come, a more accurate prediction would be: "If they can find it, they just might stop by."
Making sure that your site is easy to find, increasing the likelihood that once found -- they will stop by, and assuring that once there -- they will stay long enough to take the desired action: this is what organic search engine optimization (SEO), is all about. Some of the methods used to achieve those ends is what we will discuss here.
Now, we could talk about Conversion Rates (CR's) or Page Rejection/Abandonment Rates (PR/AR), Cost Per Visitor (CPV), Ratio of New to Returning Visitors (RN/RV), Conversion Rate, Average Page Views (APV's), Average Order Value (AOV), or my current favorite, Page "Stickiness", or any of a number of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), which are all the buzz, at the moment.
--- Looking for the better Web Hosting Solution? Go #1 ! Go iPowerWeb! ---
All I'm going to say about the KPI's here is that they are all excellent ways to measure how well your SEO campaign is going. They will provide enough numbers to keep a mathematician happily counting, for days, and provide the basis for some very useful information, IF you've done your homework, taken advantage of optimal designing, including Organic Search Engine Optimization, and used the right words from the start.
Words mean different things ~ to different people You say (pō tāt' ō) and I say (pă tŏt' ō)... ... and Billy Joe Bob, over there in the corner, says (spŭd)
Stick close to me on this one. All of us, by reason of education, upbringing, geography, (probably heredity, but who knows?) have particular ways of referring to things. On top of this, there is the jargon associated with our professions, social institutions, and Alma Maters which most of us tend to use as a badge of identity and perhaps even superiority. But as anyone knows who has ever tried to get answers to simple questions from someone unwilling, or unable to talk in anything but the jargon of their own position, it doesn't work too well.
The point I'm trying to make here is that no matter how great your (pō tāt' ōs) / (pă tŏt' ōs) are, Billy Joe Bob isn't going to be able to find them in a search, and thereby know anything about them, till you break down and start calling them spuds, at least some of the time.
Q- Hey mack, you got any swage lube? This rebated boattail won't slide. (* explanation at end)
The words that will bring people to your site and keep them there, long enough to take the action that you want them to take (sign-up, join, buy, etc.), are the words we need to find and use. The important thing to keep in mind here is that, just like you weren't looking for the Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) I mentioned earlier, so too your potential customers won't necessarily be looking for your products and/or services by the same names which you call them.
The first thing I tell a new client who is looking at establishing/ improving their position on the web is to start talking with their customers and find out what they call the services and or products that their business offers. After getting past the strange looks and raised eyebrows, they find out that their customers use completely different words to describe their business than they do.
Search Word Optimization
Now we come down to the real crux of the matter. What words will your potential customers/clients use to find your particular goods/services? In the world wide world of the WorldWideWeb my number (#1) one advice is, "Assume Nothing." There is no reason to guess. Anything you don't know (I try to start with the idea that I know nothing) can be checked out and proven, one way or another.
One way to find out what most people are calling what they are looking for, is to use one of the handy Search Term Suggestion Tools you will find on our SEO Tools page. Here you can input words and phrases you would like to use for your site keywords and see how many times they were searched for on an average day. Here we can quickly find out the differences between the words "we think" people would be looking for in order to find the services offered by this site and what they actually use.
For Example: When checking the keyword phrase website development, a common phrase among those who do that sort of thing and one I've always used to describe what I do, the average number of searches per day comes up to around 750.
Now, that's not a bad number but being as the operative word here is "optimization", we decided to try a few alternative phrases. When we checked the phrase web design the number of daily searches jumped to just under 14,000.
Any guesses as to which phrase we decided to use? The phrase web design & development not only says it more clearly to our human visitors but it also is searched for 2,100% more often than "website development" and is therefore much more "search engine friendly".
A Word of Caution
There are those who believe that, by using less than honest tactics, they can influence the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) in their favor. Having subscribed to this theory once or twice, in the past, let me just say that while it is possible to gain some short term advantage in this way, the likelihood is that you will be found out, the url will be banned, and what ever time and financial investment you have put into it will be lost.
Be sensible with your copy and optimization efforts. Google, Yahoo, MSN, and all the rest have buildings full of brilliant engineers and statisticians who stay up all night studying ways to beat the cheaters. Just like your mama told you, honesty is the best policy. You might want to keep that in mind when shopping for an SEO firm. It's Only Words . . .
Here, at Emerald Coast Entrepreneur, we strive from the start of every project to work towards a site optimized for both humans and robots. A site which will show up on the first page, in your main keyword searches, and have the look and feel to draw people in and keep them there long enough to take the desired action. And first, last and always, a site which we can look on proudly together as having earned its placement by good honest effort and applied principles of organic search engine optimization.
With a start to finish holistic approach to business strategy, professionally written copy, Internet Marketing, design development, all carried out within an integrated plan for optimized results, we can bring your business to a place of prominence and assure the leads/sales that you want and need, in order to grow your business.
Time has proven three indisputable facts pertaining to Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
1. SEO is the most cost effective form of internet marketing available.</li> 2. SEO usually provides an extremely fast return on investment. Many times within 30 days.</li> 3. SEO continues to provide returns, long after an individual project is completed.</li>
------------------------- ------------------------- ----- * Explanation: Hunters may skip this section.
swage (swāj) verb 1: form metals with a swage Swaging is the operation of cold forming metal through a die using high pressures, specifically in the manufacture of bullets. A rebated boattail is a method of sealing the bullet within the jacket in such a way that the seal is improved, reducing muzzle blast and increasing accuracy. Oh, why didn't you just say so?

| 3 Way Linking - The New Popularity Building Strategy For Your Website |
| 11.18.05 (12:20 pm) [edit] |
|
3 Way Links - The 3 Way Linking Method
There has been a lot of talk over the past few months, even more so with the latest Google update, about the value of linking. What types of links are better, which types are still seen as value added to a website. Well if the truth be told, the only people who can tell us are not saying anything. I am speaking of the engineers at Google and the other search engines, the very people who are the one who determine the value of all linking.
According to some people at the various search engine optimization companies, reciprocal links are no longer being considered when determining link popularity for a website. Just like so many of the other theories search engine optimization, outside of the engineering labs, no one really knows for certain. I have read some of the reports that have been issued on this topic and these reports are far from conclusive, offering little more than contradictory examples taken over several days of testing.
So aside from a wait and see what happens next stance what can we do? Rather than adopt a reactive position to this uncertainty I feel that it would be far better to move forward and be proactive by changing my linking strategies. As long as there is any kind of controversy regarding reciprocating links, there really isn't much point in relying on them to help build link popularity.
Personally, I still place a value in reciprocating links as a valid means of trading traffic and will continue to utilize them however, as more and more misinformation gets spread over the Internet it will become increasingly more difficult to exchange links with quality sites. So what is a webmaster to do now that this style of linking seems to be on its way out? Simple - adapt or disappear off the search engine radar. Well Google's radar anyway.
For my consultation clients I am going to suggest that they be extremely selective on who they link with now. Spend more time evaluating the potential linking partners. If the site measure up to their standards of web development and the theme of the linking site matches their site in some manner then, go ahead and trade links.
Before they trade links with any site they should make sure that the partner site is placing their link on a page that has some "on topic" content rather than a page that contains just random links. If possible only trade links with sites that employ some form of directory system so that all of the links contained on any given page share a similar theme. I will also be suggesting that they set up their own directory style system broken into categories and every page in each category should contain a topical block of text that ties all potential links together. Setting up their own system like this will make linking with their site more desirable.
Another strategy I will be advising my clients on is the use of 3 way links. For those of you who do not know what three way links are here is a brief, simplistic description: Site A links to Site B, Site B links to Site C, Site C links to Site A. Pretty straight forward eh? The process is pretty straight forward but the application often is not. The only way three way links work is when all the parties involved are honest and are willing to maintain those links.
Recently I tested one of my sites and discovered that approximately 80% of the sites I traded links with were not honoring our agreement. Now I fully expected that there would be some shiftless webmasters out there who would be less than trustworthy but, I never expected the number to be so high.
Although reciprocating linking isn't too difficult of a task it does require a certain amount of time and effort. To have some unscrupulous webmaster cheat you out of your back link in your reciprocated deal is bad enough but to have one do that to your site in a 3 way link deal is even worse.
You see a 3 way linking deal requires slightly more effort due to the necessity of documenting all of the information regarding this agreement. If you are going to go through all of that effort to set up a three way linking agreement you certainly do not want one of the partners to sour the deal by dropping one of the links without notifying any of the other partners.
> Looking for the better Web Hosting Solution? Go #1 ! Go iPowerWeb!
The extra work required to establish a successful 3 way linking agreement isn't too difficult, it is all about record keeping. After you have researched the two sites that you think would make good candidates for your three way link swap, you are going to need to contact them and invite them into the exchange. More than likely you are going to have to lay out the plan and explain to them why a 3 way link deal is good and make sure that they understand that the only way it works is if everybody involved is open, honest and up front about everything.
As part of the research for the 3 way trade you are going to want to make sure that all three sites are in some way related. Not necessarily in direct competition with each other but connected in some way; much like the way a restaurant site would be similar to a hotel site and the hotel site might be similar to a pub site. Pretty simple really as a hotel can contain both a pub or a restaurant, it isn't too much of a stretch to think that these 3 service based businesses could be related somehow.
Once you have the three sites picked that you would like to trade links with make sure you research them thoroughly. The things you want to be checking for are;
Page Rank IP Quality Age of the sites Current link popularity
Page Rank When checking Page Rank you are looking to make sure that everybody is of a similar PR. Don't get greedy and automatically suggest that your site should be linked from the site with the highest PR. In fact it might be a good idea to suggest that the higher PR site should link to the lowest PR site. Doing this may make the deal seem a little sweeter.
IP It would be best if all 3 sites were on different IP addresses. Sites that are all residing on the same IP may be misconstrued as being part of a link farm strategy. Why take the chance?
Quality This one should be a no brainer. If the site isn't of a quality that you would recommend to your friends or family to visit why would you want to risk the credibility of your site by suggesting that other people go to it? Rule of thumb here on quality is this; if you wouldn't bookmark the site for yourself, don't link to it.
Age of the Sites The age of the site is important because of the alleged age delay sandbox effect in Google's algorithms. If the site is too new then you may have to wait for the site to mature before any weight is given to the out going links from that site. You should try to make sure that the sites you include in your 3 way linking are at least 1 year old or more. No guarantees that sites over a year are going to be mature enough but at least the odds are better.
Current Link Popularity The reason you will want to check out the current link popularity is more about the investigation into their linking history. Do they currently trade links with sites that may be considered as being from a bad neighborhood. Do they link to gambling, porn or FFA sites? If they do and they are not part of the gambling or porn world and your site isn't either then DO NOT link to them.
Three ways linking in this manner revisits the days when linking was more natural. This type of linking will demonstrate to the search engines that you value your linking recommendations and therefore the search engines should value them as well. If the search engines trust your site to make these recommendations then there is no way that the applied due diligence will get you in trouble with the search engines.

Why Is Directory Linkage Important? By: Rich Brunelle
When you look at Site Statistics for your web site, what do you see? Do you see only a Hit and Pages Viewed count? Or, do you see Incoming Linkage, Visiting Robots, and all the other goodies Stats Reports reveal?
Myself, I could give a rats behind what my ranking is on certain Search Engines, as long as I see that they consistently are spidering my sites. Sooner or later the world is going to revolt against search engines dictating how web sites are constructed, and realize the expense created by trying to satisfy the search engines is more than most small, medium, and some large business care to continue to pay. Face it, paying for SEO, Adwords, Optimize this and Optimize that while keeping many of us gainfully employed, is also quite expensive.
Regardless of the aforementioned, the "Ever Efficient WebMaster" continues to struggle against the tide, hoping for those fifteen minutes of "top ten" search engine rankings. And at the same time, "Mister Lazy Internet User" has lost out on another good deal because he was too lazy to recognize the "Top Rankings" haven't a damn thing to do with Quality, Service, or Satisfaction.
*** Okay folks, I have made you wait long enough. Here's the part about Search Directories.
Search Directories is not the proper term. These Directories search nothing. Searchable Directories or Searchable Databases is what they are. Webmasters submit their sites URL and Keyword data to these databases to be found when someone searches for them. But these Directories play an even more important role. Search Engines also search these Directories. And, a Directory listing is a one way link to your site with Keywords and Description as Content.
These "One-Way" links to your web site are worth their weight in gold for creating the linkage needed for getting the attention of the Search Engines so desperately sought after. Directories may charge a small fee, but many don't. Many Directories are topic, industry, or other specific. Others are general listing types that anyone can add their data to for free. But all of them play an important role in the hierarchy of the Internet.

| Golden Rules for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) |

Golden Rules for Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Search engines are hot topic. Google has great financial reports every quarter. Google is the most used search engine and if you want to use the power of search engines and to have success on the Internet you have to do your search engine optimization (SEO) wisely. We will give you several tips that will help you in making better SEO campaigns.
Rule #1 - Quality content
You probably know about that "Content Is King" rule. It is especially true for SEO. Try to have relevant and quality content, at least 400 words per page. Search engines love lengthy articles. You web site should be up-to-date, articles and news have to be added on a regular basis, at least once a week. This will show to search engines that your web site is an ongoing project and not some "let's make a web site for Adsense" schemes. Make your content relevant to your target audience, use appropriate keywords but don't make a mistake and do keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is when someone intentionally includes many keywords and repeats them many times in the article hoping to achieve better search engine placement. Search engines are machines but they are not naïve, and they are getting "smarter" every day. Your keywords need to have the most appropriate keyword density. You won't be able to know the right keyword density because search engines often change their rules. Several great resources and software can help you to choose the right keyword density and to be up-to-date with search engine trends.

Rule #2 - Link popularity
Links are the next most important rule in making a successful search engine optimization. Many search engines give very much weight to number of web sites that have links to your web site. It is especially case with Google, the most important search engine, that use their proprietary technology called PageRank that ranks web sites by counting number of links it has on other web sites. However, quantity is not the most important thing. You should have quality links. So, Google will give you better PageRank (PR) if you have links on web sites with higher PR. They assume that if quality sites link to your web site that your site is quality, as well. That's why you should make ad swaps with quality web sites that focus on similar audience like your web site. Please be aware that linking between sites that are on the same server (IP address) won't bring you benefit in increasing your PR. To check your link popularity type site:www.yourdomainname.com in Google search bar and you will get list of sites that have links to your web site. Also you can use a free service at:
http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/" title="http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/" target="_blank"http://www.marketleap.com/pub...
Also, you should have a good internal navigation on your web site. It is recommended that you design your web site that every page can be accessed within 3 clicks.

Rule #3 - Meta Tags
Meta tags give different information about your web site. The most used Meta tags are for title, keywords and description. Meta tags are placed between <head> </head> tag in your HTML document. It is very important to give good page titles, description and keywords for every page on your web site. It doesn't have to be too short, but also it doesn't have to be too lengthy. Between <title> </title> tag you will write title of your HTML document. Title shouldn't be longer than 70 characters. Choose it very wisely. After that you can include different Meta tags. We will give you several most used Meta tags: <meta name="description" content="your description goes here"> <meta name="keywords" content="place your keywords here">
There are several useful free services that will help you in finding the best keywords for your web site. We can recommend you these services:

Also, there are other Meta tags that you can use in your web site. <meta name="revisit-after" content="number of days"> This Meta tags give info to search engines when they should come back to your web site and re-index it.
The following Meta tag gives info to search engines what to index. In this case they will index all pages. However, you can also make some restrictions and to deny that some pages be indexed by search engines with making a so called robot.txt file. <meta name="robots" content="all">
Also, you can place a Meta tag that will give info about you or the author of your web site. <meta name="web author" content="your info goes here">
Those 3 rules are the most important rules in search engine optimization. Also there are other rules that we will only mention like to use a so called ALT tags to give description to your images, don't use database-driven links (make them search engine friendly) and don't use frames in designing your web site. Also, it is highly recommended to submit your web site to Open Directory Project web site (http://www.dmoz.org" title="http://www.dmoz.org" target="_blank"http://www.dmoz.org). It takes time to be indexed there but it is useful because it will help you in better search engine placement and many sites use Open Directory Project database on their web sites. After you have completed your SEO campaign you will have to check your rankings on search engines for different keywords. Beside above mentioned SEO software, we can recommend you these free services for checking keyword/ranking placement:

| How to get listed with google in less than 24 hours |

How to get listed with google in less than 24 hours
Firstly the truth, you do not need some miracle to get listed in google in less than 24 hours. Getting listed in google in under a day can actually be quite easy and in this article I'll show you exactly how to do it.
Firstly what we mean by your site getting indexed is when it shows up on the google search engine. To find out if you website is listed enter www.yourdomain.com into the search box. You will see "no results" appear, which means our website is new and its not in google's index. Google doesn't know your site exists, therefore it cannot be ranked.
--- Make Money with your Website! Join the Google AdSense Program ! ---
So we must first get into their index, when we do, you should see your website title, description and url appear. Then your website is indexed by google. So how do we do this?
Firstly do not use google's submission form. This method takes about 5 weeks to be indexed.
What you need to do is enter a few keywords related to the website you want to index. You should see a whole list of websites related to your own. What you need to do next is download a google toolbar; this will show you the page rank of each page in the search engine. You can download the toolbar at http://toolbar.google.com" title="http://toolbar.google.com" target="_blank"http://toolbar.google.com
You need to look down through these related websites, paying particular attention to the page ranks. Try and find a webpage with a rank of 5 or higher. Enter their website and look for links on their homepage, if you find a links page , you can then contact them and ask if they will do a link swap, write them a convincing letter and 50% will agree although the higher the page rank ,the tougher they are to convince.
--- DreamweaverMadeSimple. Dreamweaver Interactive Video Tutorial and eBook. ---
If you can convince 1 page rank 5 to link with you, your website will be listed in roughly 3 to 4 days. To get your site listed in less than 24 hours, get 1 website with a page ranking of 6 to link with you. That's it, no miracles. It works!
Now there is actually an easier way than writing to these people. Visit a link purchasing website. Here is a great free link exchange website where you can swap links with different websites, The link is http://www.LinkMetro.com" title="http://www.LinkMetro.com" target="_blank"http://www.LinkMetro.com .
Now that you're in google's index, you can start to concentrate on increasing your page rank.

| Picking A Great Domain Name |
| 11.06.05 (1:47 am) [edit] |
|
Picking A Great Domain Name.
Why are so many dot-com ventures guaranteed to fail or a best achieving luck luster results on the internet? Because they haven't wisely invested the time, energy and thought power into creating a memorable domain name. So before choosing a domain name, consider a few ideas.
First of all, consider the real estate term location, location, location. You need to think of your domain extension as a location, as most web surfers expect to see dot-com after a URL. Many surfers automatically type in dot-com at the end of the domain name even if you advertise your domain as dot-net or dot-org. I'm not saying you can't build something great using other extensions, its just a lot harder.
So what works?
Short, simple, real words that are easy to spell and create a lasting impression. For website on health care products, for example www.cloud9.com or www.clondnine.com would work. www.bestexperiencehealthcare.com most likely wouldn't.
Also your domain name should tell the search engines what you are all about. Since few surfers would search directly for www.clondnine.com, www.cloud-nine.com might be a better option.
Simple may be best and you want a name that is to memorable, but don't make your domain name to generic. www.money.com is simple and easy to remember, but it doesn't create a memorable association with a particular product or brand name. Think of a name to grabs to the surfers attention. Instead of www.money.com try www.moneymatters.com.
A great domain name in its self won't keep your business afloat, but if it at least creates a memorable association and draws surfers to your site you're already halfway there.
Finally here is a recommended Domain Registration & Webhosting solution:

| Tips For the Perfect Domain Name |
| 11.06.05 (1:41 am) [edit] |
|
Tips For the Perfect Domain Name.
What is a domain name? A domain name is the location of your website on the Internet. Your domain name will be what you become known by online so it's important to get it right.
Each website on the Internet is labeled with something called an IP address which is the actual address of the website online. A typical IP address looks like this: 159.134.27.64. Remembering a string of numbers like that is difficult so a domain name translates all those numbers into something like amazon.com. This is far easier to remember.
#1 Dot what? Each domain has what's called an extension. The most well known of these extensions is .com. This, however, is not the only type of domain extension available. There is also:
.net
If you can't find your preferred .com domain name you could always choose the same domain with a .net extension. It might not have the same ring as a
.com
but is still as just useful as a .com.
.org
These domain extensions were orginally designed for educational and more formal websites. Anybody can register a .org however so you have more options for domain selection.
.info
A more recent introduction to the domain name game are .info domains. Many of the valuable .info domains were bought up overnight but there's still a huge range of good .info domains available. With a little creativity you could really make a .info work for you e.g. www.moviereview.info.
Bear in mind that most web surfers tend to remember .com more easily than anything else.
#2 Branding vs Business Name
There is an age old debate on the whether or not you should establish a brand name online or use a domain that more actually reflects your real business. Let's look at Amazon as an example. Amazon sells books online. Most people setting up a business would have chosen say www.booksonline.com instead of amazon.com Amazon has since established itself as a brand name of global recognition - proving the value of building a brand name.
You'll need to choose between the two. Brand name or your own business name. Consider how your domain sounds, how it might look on a business card and how well it relates to your business. There's no one right answer to this question. You need to choose what makes most sense for you, your website and your business in general.
#3 Hyphenated or not
This is another area of debate. Should your domain be one single word or should the words be separated by hyphens? There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. Single word domain names can be easier to explain, use on header paper and lend themselves to brand names very well.
Single word domains are in very, very short supply.
Hyphenated domains names can be slighltly more difficult to explain, may not look as well on headed paper and possibly harder to establish as a brand name. There's no shortage of multiple word domains. The single biggest advantage a hyphenated domain has is that search engines can "read" the domain more easily. For example in a domain like foreignholidaysonline.com the search engine can only read the first word "foreign" and that's it. It can't tell anything else about the website domain name.
If you hyphenated that to foreign-holidays-online.com the search engine can read "foreign", "holidays" and "online" as separate words and therefore knows that this website is about foreign holidays.
A well chosen hyphenated domain name can be just as effective as a single word domain name.
#4 Your Domain Registrar
These are the people you pay to register the domain for you. There are dozens if not hundreds of these companies out there so which one do you choose? This takes some research but things worth checking are:
Do you retain sole ownership of the domain or do the registrar keep some level of control over it?
Search Google for any horror stories relating to the registrar
Does the registrar allow you to transfer the domain to another registrar?
Is there an online control panel for domain administration?
How easy is it to change the domain Name Servers?
Shop around for domain registrars. What you really want to find is a previously satisfied customer to ask questions before you buy.
#5 Cheap Domain Names
You can save a lot of money on the domain names you purchase. A typical .com domain costs about $15 to register from most registrars. However you can get the same domain for as little as $7.95 from other, very reliable, companies. (e.g. at GLOBAT.com, whereas the first year is currently even for FREE!)
Oddly enough some of the cheaper domain registrars are more reliable, have fewer horror stories and offer equally good customer service as their more expensive competitors.
Are there any disadvantages in using a discount domain registrar? Will it affect your website in any way? The answer to both is a definite No.:)
And last but not least my personal recommendat ion for the obviously most powefull domain registration and webhosting solution, because "Size does matter!" Get your own domain including unbelievable 10 GIGABYTE (!) Webspace now for FREE for the entire first year at GLOBAT, international webhoster with the largest webspace available!

|
DNS - How it works and why it's important to your website.
This page describes how DNS works and why it's so important regarding your hosting account. DNS stands for Domain Name Service. It translates your domain name www.3essentials.com into an IP Address, 66.179.153.10 so that visitors wishing to view your web pages can contact the web server that is hosting those pages.
When you purchase a domain name, say 3essentials.com, you purchase it from a registrar (Network Solutions for example). The registrar registers the domain name for all of the DNS Servers on the planet to query. There are several DNS Servers that contain records about the domain (3essentials.com) and what DNS Servers have the master record for that domain, these are called root DNS Servers. When another DNS Server (say your ISP's) needs to know where to go to find the master record they query(go ask) the root DNS Servers.
So let's say a visitor wishes to view your website and say they type www.3essentials.com (or better yet, your domain name!) into their web browser and click go. The visitors computer that is connected to the internet contacts it's ISP's DNS Server looking for www.3essentials.com. If the ISP's DNS Server already has a record of the IP (66.179.153.10) for the www.3essentials.com web server it gives the visitors computer that IP Address, and then the computer connects to the IP and the browser passes www.3essentials.com to the web server for the page to be displayed.
If the ISP's DNS Server doesn't have the IP for www.3essentials.com, then it contacts the root DNS servers on the internet asking them what is the IP Address of the DNS Server that has the IP for www.3essentials.com. That's where our DNS Servers come into play. 3Essentials DNS Servers contain the master record for www.3essentials.com. Any DNS Server on the planet that doesn't have the IP will ask the root dns servers who does, the root dns servers will say go ask NS1.3ESSENTIALS.COM or NS2.3ESSENTIALS.COM for the IP. So the ISP's DNS Server will go ask one of our DNS Servers for the IP and then pass that back to the requesting vistors computer.
When you purchase your new domain, you need to delegate ( or assign ) it to our DNS Servers so that every DNS Server on the planet knows where to go to get the IP for your domain.
And what about domain registration including powerfull werbhosting?

| How to Choose a Good Domain Name |
| 11.06.05 (1:28 am) [edit] |
|
How to Choose a Good Domain Name.
In the E-World your domain name is your first assessment of what your site is about. It's not just your site name but it is the first criterion of your success on the Internet and when it comes to a point of success you must hold it tight. It can make your business stand out in the crowd, or just float aimlessly in space. Well many of us think that it merely plays any role but it's not the truth. Think if nobody remembers your site name or see no visual look of what your site is about.
The temptation of a good domain name is so powerful; that's why some companies even paid ridiculously high prices to get the name they want. The domains Loans.com and Wines.com were both bought for $3 million each. Telephone.com was acquired for $1.75 million, while Bingo.com sold for $1.1 million.
So the main question is, what points we should consider when we choose a domain name. For better results, your domain name should be memorable and easy to remember. Remember the following tips when creating a domain name.
* The domain name should be short. * The domain name should be simple. * It should be suggestive of your business category. * It should be unique. * It should be easy to interpret and pronounce. * It should be personalized. * It should not be difficult to spell. * It should not be difficult to remember.
Domain names can be registered through many different companies (known as "registrars"). You can register for 1 to 10 years - prices can vary anywhere from $10 to $20 per year. Most web hosting companies, will handle the registration process for you, but make sure that you are properly listed as the owner of the domain when it is registered.
If you have registered a domain name for a specific period, make sure you renew it in time. You can be surprised at the number of cases, where site owners have let a domain name slip by if they have not renewed in time.
How to use expired domains:
Did you know you can use expired domains to skyrocket your traffic? Let me tell you about expired domains first. Thousands of webmasters invest time, effort and money to promote their site and build up traffic. Many of them then lose interest and move on, leaving their site active. That means that although they still own the domain, they're not actively promoting it.
All the automatic marketing systems they've put in place are still bringing in traffic. The site runs itself. Now, at some point the ownership of those domains is going to expire. If you snap up those domains once they come back onto the market, you've got a pre-built stream of customers. You can either rebuild the site, or redirect the traffic to your domain. You could set up an affiliate program get paid for users someone else paid for.
Its that easy.
Websites such as www.expiredtraffic.com or www.deleteddomains.com are doing great job for expired domains. They actually do all the legwork and let you reap all the rewards. Even you can back-order a specific domain name also.

| Design an Online Chat Room with PHP and MySQL |
| 11.05.05 (1:08 pm) [edit] |
|
Design an Online Chat Room with PHP and MySQL
In this article, you will learn how to design and develop a simple online chat room with PHP and MySQL. This tutorial explains every steps of the development, including both database design and PHP programming. Basic computer skills and knowledge of HTML and PHP are required. Ok, let's begin now.
Step 1: Design Database Table. Create table "chat" in MySQL database to store basic chat information: chtime (chat time), nick (user nickname) and words (chat message, less than 150 characters)
mysql> CREATE TABLE chat
-> chtime DATATIME,
-> nick CHAR (10) NOT NULL,
-> words CHAR (150);
Step 2: Design Structure. This simple online chat room includes the following four sections: user login, message display, message input and a main frame integrating the display and input sections. Thus, it needs the following four files to work: login.php, main.php, display.php and speak.php.
Step 3: Write the code
1. login.php (just a HTML form)
<html>
<head>
<title>User Login</title>
</head>
<body>
Please input your nickname and enter
<form action="main.php" method="post" target="_self">
<input type="text" name="nick" cols="20">
<input type="submit" value="login">
</form>
</body>
</html>
2. main.php
<?
setcookie("nick",$nick) //use cookie to store user nickname
?>
<html>
<title>My Chat Room</title>
<frameset rows="80%,*">
<frame src="display.php" name="chatdisplay">
<frame src="speak.php" name="speak">
</frameset>
</html>
3. display.php
This file is used to get message records from database and display the results. To keep the size of database, old messages are deleted and only the newest 15 messages are displayed.
<html>
<head>
<title>Display Messages</title>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="5;url=display.php">
</head>
<body>
>//connect to mysql server, server name: main, database username: root
$link_ID=mysql_connect("m ain","root");
mysql_select_db("abc"); //abc is the database name
$str="select * from chat ORDER BY chtime;" ;
$result=mysql_query($str, $link_ID);
$rows=mysql_num_rows($res ult);
//get the latest 15 messages
@mysql_data_seek($resut,$ rows-15);
//if the number of messages<15, get all of the messages
if ($rows<15) $l=$rows; else $l=15; for ($i=1;$i<=$l; $i++) {
list($chtime, $nick, $words)=mysql_fetch_row($ result);
echo $chtime; echo " "; echo $nick; echo":" ; echo $words; echo " ";
} //delete the old messages(only keep the newest 20 only)
@mysql_data_seek($result, $rows-20);
list($limtime)=mysql_fetc h_row($result);
$str="DELETE FROM chat WHERE chtime<'$limtime' ;" ;
$result=mysql_query($str, $link_ID);
mysql_close($link_ID);
?>
</body>
</html>
4. speak.php
<html>
<head>
<title>Speak</ti tle>
</head>
<body>
<?
If ($words)
{ $link_ID=mysql_connect("m ain","root");
mysql_select_db("abc"); // abc is the database name
$time=date(y).date(m).date(d).date(h).date(i).(date(s); //get current time
$str="INSERT INTO chat(chtime,nick,words) values ('$time','$nick','$words' );" ;
mysql_query($str,$link_ID ); //save message record into database
mysql_close($link_ID); )
?>
//the following is the message input form
<form action="speak.php" method="post" target=" _self">
<input type="text" name="words" cols="20">
<input type="submit" value="Speak">
</form>
</body>
</html>
Now, you have finished the design and coding of a simple online chat system. Put all the files into your website root and see how it works, :)

1 Billion Monthly Local Searches -- How to Tap into This Astonishing Market is Finally Revealed
Search Engines Becomes the Preferred Way to Find Local Businesses! by Kamau Austin
Do you have a website that fails to generate decent traffic? Have you failed to make search engine marketing a part of your promotion of your business because you have a local business, or feel the Internet is not where your customer's will find you?
Recent reports in Emarketer daily, one of the top Internet business resources, reveal over 50% of the country are now online. More importantly twice as many people search online for local businesses than use their Yellow Pages to find businesses in their area.
You could be losing at least 20 - 50% of your potential market and customers by not having an Internet marketing plan with a strong search engine component.
- Local Search Becoming More Important!
For those business owners who once felt that the Internet wasn't necessary for their local business, you should especially take note.
Now is the time to learn to tap into the promotional power of the Internet for your local business.
Since consumers increasingly are searching online for local businesses, how will your businesses take advantage of this fundamental shift in customer behavior? The Internet has affected almost every facet of business and has driven the creation of new business models while forcing the evolution of others, writes Click4Talk's Dave Landa.
Landa goes on to state traditional printed yellow pages and local commerce are being drawn headlong into the Internet vortex. The surge in online local searches by consumers relative to traditional printed phone book searches has prompted tremendous business focus in this space.
Local search has become such a strong business Google has even gotten into the act.
- Google Outsourced the Selling of Local Search
It is a very important development that Google has outsourced the selling of local search PPC programs to Bell South last year. Bell South has a large sales force that can sell search advertising face-2-face to local businesspeople and merchants.
In other words Internet search will become a significant marketing strategy for local business. This is significant because 20% of searches online are for local information. This is a huge amount of monthly searches.
- 20% of Internet Searches are for local Information means approximately close to One Billion Searches a Month are being queried via the Top Search Engines -- for local searches. This One Billion local searches will create new local business models and propel visionary tech savvy local businesses.
In other words, if you once thought your local business didn't need to be on the Internet, it is time to get a new reality check.
To bring home the importance of this grand Internet marketing shift on how it will impact your local sales, consider a recent experience with me and my wife. We listed a real estate property in two of our major local papers (The New York Times and The Star Ledger of NY and NJ respectively). The response was slow.
Later we ran a targeted local Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaign with Google and received more than 10 times the amount of leads from both The New York Times and the Star Ledger!!!
Local focused and targeted PPC advertising with Google had out performed Two major northeastern newspapers with established real estate sections by an amazing margin. By the way, the collective circulation of the New York Times and NJ Star Ledger was 5.5 million people for the Sunday Editions.
This rise in the search engines and major portal to find local business has come at a price to local newspapers, major newspapers, and the local yellow pages. With twice as many people preferring to use the search engines to find local business than the yellow pages, this obviously has shaken-up print media.
To further illustrate this point recently the parent company of the New York Times purchased About.com the popular Internet portal!
Your competitors will soon be introduced to the importance of local search via sales consultants from Bell South and other advertising rep firms. Don't get caught sleeping -- on move to local search!
My business has grown 3-fold in the last year because I made a focused decision to grow my business in my local area using the search engines. I know of some business associates that have created lucrative local directory type web businesses rather than putting their emphasis on general Internet Traffic.
If you are looking to increase your sales and profits maybe looking at the short view and local niches in your are is the quickest way to get there.

| Balancing Paid and Organic Listings |
| 11.05.05 (1:03 pm) [edit] |
|
Balancing Paid and Organic Search Listings
Does your company's website really need to be listed in both the organic or "natural" search results as well as the paid "sponsored" results? According to panel of search engine experts at a recent Search Engine Strategies conference, the answer is yes. Most search engine marketing experts agree that a combined approach--one that relies on both organic search engine rankings and paid listings works best.
Higher click-thru ratios According to recent research, websites that are listed at the top of the organic search results and the paid listings will triple their click-thru ratio. Three times more people will visit your website if it is listed in both places because there is a "second opinion effect". Searchers see both listings and are encouraged by the fact that a website is listed in both the organic listings and the paid listings.
Greater penetration of search results By optimizing your website's content to rank well in the organic search results, your website can be found for many keyword phrases and combinations of keywords. Good organic search engine rankings typically take months to achieve, and are fairly easy to maintain on an ongoing basis. Pay per click (PPC) can be implemented quickly--it can also be turned on and off as needed, depending on your company's budget and current promotions.
More keyword research Keyword research tells you how many people per day search for what keyword terms. There are many tools available that allow you to perform keyword research even before you achieve organic search engine rankings or start a PPC campaign. Once organic search engine rankings are achieved, keyword research using existing website statistic data allows you to enhance your listing of keywords--you can combine your organic keyword list with your PPC keyword list to focus on the keyword phrases that bring you the best ROI.
Build credibility Organic search engine rankings provide very high levels of credibility and broad coverage on potentially every search engine worldwide. When a website is listed well in the organic search results, the website usually is found for not only their chosen keywords but many combinations of keyword phrases related to those chosen keywords. It's those other combinations of related keywords that bring a website a lot of more visibility in the search results, frequently causing a website appear to be found "for everything" related to a certain industry. The results can be staggering--a properly optimized website can appear in the search results more often and for more related keywords than a company who has not done any organic search optimization.
Appearing the paid results also helps to build credibility--just because a searcher doesn't click on a paid ad and visits the website doesn't mean they haven't seen the company's sponsored listing. Paid listings also can provide some visibility and credibility for certain keywords that aren't usually obtainable through organic search engine optimization.

| CSS Browser Detection - The complete guide |
| 11.04.05 (10:54 am) [edit] |
|
Different browsers, different CSS interpretations! There will be a time when you'll need to hide some CSS rules from a particular browser, or even all the CSS file! In this articles I'll try to compile all possible types of Browser detection technics and provide examples. So let's start with the easier one!
Browser detection for Netscape
Netscape 4 is probably the dumbest browser when it comes to CSS support, extremely limited and many times erroneous! As the browser's market share of Netscape is below 0.5% it became natural to hide the CSS file from it! The method used for this is the import directive that will make the browser to display a version of the site completely without CSS.
Here's the directive you have to call: (style type="text/css")@import url(wise-designscom.css);(/style)
Browser Detection for IE Mac computers
This browser "died" when Microsoft announced there would be no more updated versions of it. Now this browser fell in desuse and there are a wide range of CSS technics that IE/Mac doesn't interpret well! Therefore many webmasters started to code their CSS sites so that they would work correctly on this browsers. Contrary to Netscape users, these weren't neglected.
The hide technic:
/* Hide from IE-Mac */ #header {padding-bottom:3em} #footer {padding-top:1.5em} /* End hide */
IE/Mac won't see these commands but will display the content even without those rules! Now... if you have a specific area of your site that isn't vital to your visitors you can just hide it completely from this browser without having the trouble to even try and make it look better within the possible! Here's how:
#noiemac {display: none}
/* Hide from IE-Mac */ #noiemac {display: block} /* End hide */
The first rule hides it all from IE/Mac (e.g
content to hide here! )
The second CSS ruledisplays the section cause Ie/Mac can't see it!
Browser Detection for Internet Explorer
For this one we'll have to use the "child selector". This rule consists of two elements, the parent and his child! Let it be html>body, body being the child of html the parent! As IE don't understand it, it will come a time when this knowledge will come to be handy!
The typical example of the header margin:
#header {margin-bottom:4em} html>body #header {margin-bottom:1em}
IE will use the 1st rule cause it's blind to the 2nd and all other browsers will use the 2nd one!
Browser Detection for Internet Explorer 5
At first this one was strange to me! How the hell we have to set different rules for different VERSIONS of the same browser? Well, the truth is that IE5 doesn't get right the box model! When we specify the width of an element in CSS, that doesn't include the values of padding and borders. IE5 include these values in the width, which leads to widths become smaller in it!
Let's see the following example:
#header {padding: 2em; border: 1em; width: 12em}
For all browsers this width would be 12em! For IEe the width would be 6em!! God! How is that possible? Simple: 12em (Width) - 4 (padding left + padding right) - 2 (border left + border right)!
Is there any solution for this problem? Sure! A clever guy, named Tantek Çelik (you'll hear of him a lot if you read many tutorials of CSS! This is kind of the most important discovery since the wheel on CSS community!) invented the box model hack
He said that to make browser detection work , and send a different CSS rule to IE5 you would use the following:
#header {padding: 3em; border: 1em; width: 18em; voice-family: ""}""; voice-family:inherit; width: 12em}
IE5 will use the first width value of 18em! 6em of which will be taken up by the padding-left + padding-right + border-left + border-right. This would ultimately give the element a width of 12em in IE5.
The 18em value will then be overridden by the second width value of 12em by all browsers except IE5, which, for some reason, can't understand the CSS command that comes immediately after all those squiggles. It doesn't look pretty, but it does work!
I hope this articled helped you understand the different situations related to browser detection in the CSS world! At first it was confusing to me but with 2/3 hours of reading anyone would be able to understand this ... and understand well! | Webhosting: Choosing the right Domain Name |
| 11.04.05 (10:51 am) [edit] |
|
What's in a name? This question has been asked since the dawn of time. Now in the digital age the question is now - What's in a domain name? How important is it to have a great domain name? Bad domain names have been the downfall of countless businesses online and the sad part is, most of these companies aren't even aware that there domain name is the problem.
Choosing a great domain name should be one of your number one priorities when starting a business. There are several things to think about when choosing a domain name:
*Is the domain name short? People don't like to type in long domain names. They will also be more likely to forget your domain name if it's long. Keep in mind that your domain name will be part of your email address and nobody wants to type in jsmith@lisas-flower-empor iumworld.com every time they send you an email.
* Does your domain name contain dashes? Never, ever use a dash in you domain name. People will have a hard time remember if and where your domain contains a dash. I know it sometimes hard to find the exact domain name you are looking for but just because joescigars.com is not available, doesn't mean you should buy joes-cigars.com. Look for alternatives like joeyscigars.com or cigarjoes.com. Keep brainstorming and don't give up until you find a good name. No matter how hard it is, don't be tempted to put that dash in there.
* Is your domain name catchy? Google, Yahoo and Amazon - What do these domain names have in common? They are all short and catchy. They don't even directly explain what they are selling, but these Internet giants realized that having a short, catchy domain name was even more important than having an informative one. While I think you should attempt to pick a domain name that gives people an idea about what you do, I wouldn't rule out choosing a short, gibberish based domain name is you can't find anything else. It may even make you rise to the top of your industry by separating you from the crowd.
The bottom line is to take your time when choosing a domain name. Ask you friends and family what they think of the potential names you have choosen. One good idea is to read a list of potential domain names to your friends and then call them a week later to ask which of the names they remember. Chances are that those names will have the most staying power. Have fun choosing your name and remember that it may be one your most important decisions!

| Tips and Tricks To Making BIG Money by Selling Domain Names! |
| 11.03.05 (12:24 pm) [edit] |
|
Would you like to be that lucky person who sells their domain for thousands or even a million dollars? It IS possible to find quality domains and resell them for huge amounts of money. The time is ripe for acquiring top domains and selling them. Now that the Internet Boom is behind us, valuable names expire everyday. The best way to find these domains is to use services on the Internet such as DomainsBot to weed out the bad names. Or just check out Hot Lists on sites like Namewinner or Pool. So what makes a "good" domain name? Usually short, single word domains and 2-3 letter .coms, .nets, and .orgs are the best. The more specific the better. These can be hard to come by but when you find them, you can almost guarantee that you can make good money from them. Once you have purchased a nice domain name, get a good appraisal of the name to get an idea of the possible worth. In order to sell your newly appraised name, you have to find a buyer. Here are your basic options for selling your domain name in a nutshell:
1. Sell it on Ebay
This is the easiest and quickest way to sell your domain name. There are several tricks to landing a good sale at Ebay. One is, start your price low. People want a bargain. Once you have received an initial bid, it will draw peoples attention to your name and create more bids. You may want to set a reserve price if you want to make sure you get X amount of dollars. When selling your domain on Ebay, make sure your domain name is in the title of the description. Also, include an appraisal to show to possible buyers the value of the domain. Keep your description short, clean, and really emphasize how important and rare your domain is. For example, if your domain is 3 letters and ends in "I", stress how most 3 letter domains that are highly valuable end in "I" because it usually stands for "Incorporated". If it ends in "E" it could stand for "Enterprise". A little bit of marketing saavy can go a long way. I once sold the domain 0pp.com for over $200. It even has a number in it making it worth very little. But I emphasize its possible uses and potential. Also, spend the extra $1 for the Bold Listing and make sure your auction ends on a Sunday afternoon or evening. This is when most people are browsing Ebay. It will make a big difference.
2. Sell it on Domain Sites
The only sites you should even consider putting your name up for sale is on ebay.com, Afternic, or Sedo. These are the most popular and where some huge sales have taken place. The only downside is that there are high numbers of domains already for sale and usually the site will get a commission of something around 10%. There also may be a small fee to join. Appraisal Blast charges a minimal fee but no commission. Your domain will get more exposure there just because there aren't hundreds of domains for sale. You may also have luck selling it on forums such as DomainState. The prices of sales there seem to be lower.
3. Contact Large Businesses with Deep Pockets
This approach takes some time and patience. Let's say you have acquired a great domain name that would work great for any business in the field of the stock market. You may want to locate some of the bigger sites or businesses and make an offer to sell your domain name. Make sure the name you own doens't have any elements that are already trademarked because you may be forced to give up the name. You may want to go on the Internet and look up current websites that deal with stocks and find ones that don't have the greatest domain names. Make offers to these sites stating how your domain is much better and will HELP them. If you get a company to bite, the rewards are usually very generous!
In summary, selling domains for high amounts of cash depends on two key elements. First you must have a quality domain, one that doesn't have numbers or isn't too long. It must be clear and easily recognizable. ".com" is the best, but even domains such as the ".us" are gaining popularity. The second key is Marketing, Marketing, Marketing! I can't stress that enough. You have to create a good reason for someone to buy your domain. How can THEY benefit from it. When these two steps are fulfilled, a sale is almost guaranteed!
Do YOU want to find out if your domain name is worth THOUSANDS of dollars? It's easy, just visit: http://www.appraisalblast.com" title="http://www.appraisalblast.com" target="_blank"http://www.appraisalblast.com...

| #1 Way to Drive Traffic to Your WebSite |
| 11.02.05 (10:33 am) [edit] |
|
Does your current web site lack traffic?
Would you like to see your sales go up by getting unique viewers to your site?
I think all web site owners would agree that, yes, they would love to have more traffic directed to their site. There is a very simple answer to this dilemma, and it's called Link Popularity.
If you have not heard this term before, orient yourself and get used to hearing it a lot. Link Popularity is a term that simply means: A measure of the quantity and quality of sites that link to your site. Link Popularity is very important because the quantity and quality of links on your site is the main way your site will get indexed on search engines and land higher up on the list - driving more traffic to your site. Link Popularity is measured in two ways: Quantity, and Quality. Quantity of links is very important. The more you have linking to your site, the better, but quality also matters.
The popular Search Engine, Google, gives each indexed page a page rank, and the higher the page rank the better. You will want to have higher-ranking pages link to you than the lower ranking pages. The more links you have and the higher their page rank, the higher your site's page rank will be. Page rank is one factor for determining placement on a Google search. You also need to keep in mind, that not only does page rank matter, but also the subject matter of the link. Search Engines place a higher quality value on links that pertain to your web site subject matter.
Recommended SEO Website Analysis, Optimisation and Submission Software Bundle: Web CEO, an excellent tool for search engine optimization. Web CEO is the leading SEO software package. What you will love about this program, it will give you everything you need to run and promote your site. It will boost your search engine rankings, bring more visitors to your site, contains error analysation tools and will help to make more money and increase the revenue generated from your site. Because this great SEO software package is more than worth the money, we recommend you to buy "Web CEO" full edition or download the Free Edition from their Web site. |
You might ask, "How do I get good Link Popularity on my site?" Linking is a long process, so plan to spend a few minutes on a daily basis over about a 3 month time period to add links to your site and to research more linking partners. It's important to do a thorough keyword analysis because it's very important to have your keywords in the link text of sites that will be linking to you. You will need to build a web directory and start seeking out links. I suggest trying to find links that pertain to your web site subject matter and start exchanging links.
Keep in mind that most of the sites that link to you will want to know the exact link text you would like used for your link. Make sure to provide them with link text rich with your keywords. Every time you add a link to your site, you have to wait for the Search Engines to re-index your site and pick up the change and you will begin to see your page rank rise. Over time, you will see your traffic rise and as you continue to pursue more links you will see your site showing up higher and higher on the Search Engines.

| Making the Most of an SEO Competitive Analysis |
| 11.01.05 (12:02 pm) [edit] |
|
If you're ready to embark on a search engine optimization campaign, you'll want to take a close look at your competitors. Either they'll be ahead of you in the SEO world or you'll detect their deficiencies and rush right past them in terms of search engine visibility.
Here are 8 key considerations.
1. Page Titles See what kind of page titles competitors use. Do they only include their name or a page name? How much do they vary? Is there a different page title for every page? Do they seem to contain reasonable search terms? Are they dominated by keywords or marketing messages?
2. META Data Do they do a good job of providing keyword-rich META descriptions? What balance do they strike between mentioning the company's value or special offers and conveying core keywords?
3. Quality of Content How much copy is apparent in each page? Is there any emphasis on the visible text? Can you even count 250 keywords on critical pages? How are the headers organized? Does the company take advantage of text navigation?
4. Robots.Text File See what the Web site owners are telling the search engines. Are search engine spiders encouraged or discouraged by the directions listed in the robots.txt file?
5. Link Building Find out how many places are linking to the competitor. You may not have time to determine the quality of all of the links, but see how many they have compared to your Web site.
6. Saturation Determine how many pages of the Web site have been indexed by the major search engines. How does each competitor compare to your efforts to provide relevant content that can be crawled by search engines?
7. Site Design, Architecture and Technology Is it professional? How would you describe the design? Is it SEO-friendly? Does the site rely on static pages or dynamic content? Are there frames or Flash with the familiar "skip intro" button?
8. Rankings As best you can, select 10 keywords and phrases and find out how well they're ranking on the major search engines. Do they rank well? Can you catch up?
If you need help with the assessment or whether SEO even makes sense for you, start with our complimentary Keyword Marketplace Activity Report.

According to Drummond, Google now operates the world's largest distributed computer system. 2. Business Model Innovation: By perfecting the nature of targeted ads, Google not only has created a highly effective revenue generator, it has produced what it hopes to be a better experience for its users. It is Google's goal to make their targeted ads at least as relevant and useful to users as the search results themselves. 3. Brand: According to Drummond, a European study recently determined Google to be the number one most recognized worldwide brand. Indeed, Google has become a verb ("I can't wait to get home and Google him") which poses real challenges to a company seeking to protect the strength of its mark. 4. Focus on the User Experience: Product decisions at Google are driven by optimizing for the user experience first and for revenue second.
