| Website Traffic Demographics |
| 10.09.07 (3:48 am) [edit] |
|
Website Traffic Demographics How much do you know about the visitors to your web site? Are they directly interested in what you have to offer them? Is what you are speaking about on your site general information that is available anywhere on the internet or something that they can only get from you? If you are simply rehashing what everybody else is saying than you are losing out on a lot of traffic and a lot of income. Exactly how much you need to know remains something of a mystery. However, it is relatively safe to say that if you offer only generalities on your web page, you may generate a lot of traffic but you will probably not get a lot of return visitors. While people who come to your site initially may provide some base ad revenue, unless they can interact on your site, they are probably not going to be very receptive to actual sales pitches from you.

For example, if you are involved in the health care niche and you only put out a couple of hundred articles about how important health care is without giving your visitors and readers any real or useful information, it is not likely that they will be returning to get any real information from your site. When you offer them something of substance, no matter whether it is a digital product or something more tangible, they will remember your mediocrity and not be compelled to purchase your offering. On the other hand, if you have fifty well-written articles discussing the different types of health care and different concerns, benefits and hazards of specific health care needs, your visitors will be more likely to return. When you have something specific to offer those readers, they are bound to be more responsive to your offers. You can have ten thousand people on your list regarding your particular niche, but are you taking all of the possible variations into consideration in order to offer something that is directly relevant to your list? That is not to say that you have to get into too much detail but that you do need to offer them something that is directly related to a specific need. If there is no specific need to fill, none of your visitors will feel a need to purchase it. While you do not want to narrow your niche down so far that you no longer have any real audience at all, you do want to include specifics about as many of those subgroups in your niche as is possible. Concentrate on building them up one at a time and you will actually fare much better than you would by bombarding them with everything all at once. If you return to our health care niche example, you could very well start off with a general site stating the relevance of health care and how important it is for everyone. That main heading can than be broken down into sub-categories in order to meet and fulfill the needs and requirements of all of the people that visit your site.

The health care needs of a professional athlete are going to be different than the needs of an elderly and infirm person. However, by including sections in your site to cover the needs of both of those groups, you have expanded your audience by providing more specifics separated into different areas. You have also accomplished this without alienating either group. This is something that is very relevant when you want to generate return traffic or confidence in the products you have for sale on your site. Whatever particular niche yours happens to be, try expanding it as far as possible while continuing to provide enough information for the casual reader to learn what category they belong in. Offering something for both the general audience as well as more specific information for each of the groups within that arena will only expand your audience, your credibility and your income.

| Insider Tips to Creating SEO Keywords and Phrases |

Insider Tips to Creating SEO Keywords and Phrases If you have been practicing search engine optimization for your website promotion and internet marketing campaigns you probably already know that it is a good idea to include quotes in your keywords and keywords phrases to make your web copy more attractive to the search engines. You probably also know that is a good idea to put things that your site specifically sells in quotes so that the search engine spiders see you as having exclusive or specialized content or information. However there are a few more tips that come along with creating SEO keywords and phrases that are less well known. Many SEO experts advise practicing word stemming. This means that when you do find a keyword that works that you should not hesitate to use it in the words different forms. For example take the phrase "SEO optimization". You might also want to use phrases such as SEO optimizing, SEO optimized and SEO optimizers which branch out linguistically from your original keyword. Another big tip is to avoid using what are called kill terms. This is just a phrase for conjunctions and prepositions that are largely ignored by the search engines. Common kill terms include a, an and, at, by, for, in, it, of, the too, to, web and with. Yet another tip is to be aware of case sensitive keywords. When in doubt you should always submit them in lower case. However when it comes to names and places you might also want to put things in their proper cases. For instance if you are searching for Frank Kern you will want to put in Frank Kern as well as frank kern. Some experts even advise putting in a keyword all in caps as in FRANK KERN as many individuals have stuck capital key caps when they search. The search engine that is thought to be most sensitive to case is Alta Vista. | Niches for your Blog or Website - How to Find a Good One? |
| 10.05.06 (12:05 pm) [edit] |
|
Niches for your Blog or Website - How to Find a Good One? Choosing a niche market is a very important step that will really be the difference between possible success and failure. What should be considered when choosing niches? One of the most important points is whether there is demand for products in that particular niche and what type of competition there is. It is best to choose certain niches that are focusing on a specific area that is popular and in demand. Niches like Internet marketing for example although very popular are saturated and to succeed in this market will take a lot of work, as the competition is strong. Focusing on certain areas of a general niche will normally offer greater rewards. For example instead of targeting health, focus on children's health, women's health, pregnancy, etc. Offer interesting content that is searched by many people looking for help on specific areas. Look at forums and discussion boards to see what type of questions are being asked. See if it is possible to find a hot topic and answer those questions whether it is in the form of an ebook or a website closely themed to give information on a specific subject. Almost certainly there will be a lot of information already available on any niche chosen, so try to be different and offer something unique. There are many places to visit to find out whether you chosen niche is popular. Visit sites like Ebay, take a look at the subheadings, look at what's hot and want it now sections to find what people are searching for. Dmoz is another site that will give ideas of what's in demand, go to a general topic and then see how many results are given for subheading to see what is in demand. Amazon can also offer an idea of what's selling, look at the bestseller lists, to find the latest hot topics. Use a keyword tool to do some research regarding the number of searches per month on your chosen niche, to get an idea on how many people are looking for information on that subject. Go to Google and do a search for your chosen niche and on the results page see how many Adwords ads appear on the right of the page. This will give an indication of how popular the topic is. If there are many ads, then it is a popular niche, and there are many advertisers. This will mean that if thinking of using Adwords as part of the promotion process, then to achieve a good position will probably be expensive depending on the chosen niche. If there are only a few results in the Adwords section, this doesn't mean that the niche won't be a success. Perhaps it is a new topic that has suddenly become popular and also it will be possible to get a good position in the Adwords results for a low cost per click. Use search engines to see how many searches are being carried out to find popular niches. Posted by John. | Build Your Dream Website |
| 09.02.06 (11:31 am) [edit] |
Build Your Dream Website by Mark Khoo A website is no longer an optional extra if you aspire to conduct some kind of business online. It's a must as a platform to promote your online business and to act as an archive of useful information for people who visit your site. Setting up a website has never been easier than now. Although knowing HTML will enhance your "expertise," the truth is you don't need to. A well-organized website will make life easier for visitors to navigate. Readers who come to your website expect you to give them some editorial guidance as to what they should be reading. As they say "unique content is king" on any website, and promoting key content is a central function of your homepage. Thanks to information overload today, the need to promote unique content effectively will become even more critical to your website if you want to be on the good side of Google. At least to some extent, every website is a publication. And every website wants people to visit it and read some of its content. There's so much content on the Internet and so little time for most people to look at everything a website can offer. Although everyone agrees that unique content is the mainstay of your website, there are other factors and strategies that could enhance the site by giving it greater pull. That's adding value to it. A flawed website is the last thing anyone would like to have. Websites are not usually considered mission-critical. They are image-critical. All websites have an attitude conveyed by the visual design. And how people react to that attitude will also decide the success or failure of the website. After its launch, a website must maintain "stickiness" and that requires people to troubleshoot problems, update content and make incremental changes that are the inevitable result of people using the site. Running a website is an ongoing exercise because a website is never finished. SEO ELITE: Get the Latest Version of the leading Seo Software! The Grand Daddy of all Seo Software! | Why To Use Google Sitemaps |
| 08.16.06 (10:09 pm) [edit] |
|
Why To Use Google Sitemaps by Kaspar Gering Why are sitemaps important? Sitemaps help search engines to better crawl your website. Sitemaps are an easy way to tell the search engines about all the pages on your website, which pages are most important to you, and when those pages change, for a smarter crawl and fresher search results. In this article, we'll cover how to create and submit a sitemap of your website to Google Sitemaps. What the giant says itself: "Google Sitemaps answers questions you might have about how Google sees your site. For example, you can learn about errors (such as if we're having trouble crawling your pages) and statistics (such as and what search queries return your site in the results)." Search engines find information about your site by using software known as "spiders" to crawl the web. Once the spiders find a site, they follow links within the site to collect information about all the pages. The spiders revisit sites regularly to find new or changed content. "Google Sitemaps is an experiment in web crawling. By using Sitemaps to inform and direct our crawlers, we hope to expand our coverage of the web and speed up the discovery and addition of pages to our index." A Sitemap file doesn't replace search engines' normal methods of crawling the web, it simply gives additional information. Google Sitemaps is a beta program, so it cannot make any predictions or guarantees about when or if your URLs will be crawled or added to Google's index. Over time, Google expects both coverage and time-to-index to improve as they refine their processes and better understand webmasters' needs. You can see statistics and errors about your website if you have a Google Account. Even if you don't have a sitemap, you still can see the statistics and errors about your website. You can simply add your website to your account and verify ownership of it. Let's get started: 1) Create a Google Account. You can create a Google Account at www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps. See the right side of the Google's page to continue. 2) Log in with your Google Account and add your website's URL. 3) Verify your site ownership. If you can upload a verification file to the same location as your Sitemap or to the site's root, Google considers you a site owner and will show you site details. 4) Create a Sitemap in a supported format. See the tools' section at manfred-knows.com and search for the ROR Sitemap Generator. Download it, install it and generate a sitemap file (xml file) 5) Add the Sitemap to your Google Sitemaps account. 6) Congratulations ! You are done ! I recommend you to update your sitemap when your site changes. When you've updated your sitemap file, remember to resubmit your sitemap in your Google's account, too. I hope this article was useful ! | Ethical Search Engine Optimisation and SEO Spam Mass |
| 07.22.06 (5:53 am) [edit] |
|
Ethical Search Engine Optimisation and SEO Spam Mass Link development & Spam mass 09 Nov 05: Four extremely intelligent Californians, Zoltan Gyongyi, Pavel Berkhin, Hector Garcia-Molina, and Jan Pedersen, released a whitepaper discussing a possible method to identify links from spam domains. Their method sheds light on some very interesting ideas on how Google might judge the quality of inbound links. Good links Vs Bad links Since the Jagger update, Google seems to be emphasizing link relevance and link quality a lot more. While relevance is pretty straight forward to understand, quality of an inbound link may be a foreign subject to those not involved in search engine marketing as part of their daily lives. So let's first discuss good links versus bad links. Not all links are equal. Links from popular sites carry more weight than links from virtually unknown sites. It is a well-known fact that Google's initial success lay in their ability to find websites and rank them based on links from other websites. As Google's popularity grew, some webmasters tried to outsmart the Google algorithm by falsely inflating the importance of their website with unnatural inbound link development. Links that are developed in such a way, with the mere intention of fooling Google's algorithm to gain higher rankings are considered to be bad links. What is Spam Mass? The research team from California devised a term - spam mass - to denote the ratio of good links to bad links for any website. Simplisticly speaking, if 60% of the inbound links to a website originate from spam domains - domains identified to be built solely for the purpose of artifically inflating a website's popularity - then the spam mass of the site would be 60% Ranking is not that simple, though, and variables such as PageRank, relevance, age etc creep in to complicate such a calculation. However, the idea bears a lot of potential from which further ideas can be developed. Applying Spam Mass to Search Engine Marketing - Why reciprocal link exchanges can pull down your site rank When optimising a site for better search engine ranking, most webmasters and search engine optimisers will actively seek inbound links from third party websites to their site. A very simple way to get these inbound links, in the past, was to exchange links with other site owners. The problem arises when most of your inbound links are from sites whose own PageRank is also influenced by link exchanges. Google is getting better at recognizing when search engine optimisation relies on spammy link development to improve rank. The principles Google uses to do so, are likely to be based on concepts similar to spam mass. For example the Google system can differentiate links from good domains and spam domains. If the PageRank of your site is mostly due to links from spam sites, Google will accordingly devalue your PageRank, discount any effect from inbound links from the spam domains and, in extreme cases, label your domain as a spam domain too! All of this can lead to a reduction in your site's rank on the search results. How to avoid Google penalties for spam links The easy answer to this is always "build your site for people, not for search engines". That doesn't mean you do not carry out the necessary search engine optimisation. It just means that you should not indulge in unnatural practices to artificially influence rank. Ideally, let your site and rank grow as if it were a natural progression. - Do not indulge in reciprocal link exchanges with spam type domains
- Stay away from link farms
- Exchange links with your suppliers and customers
- Get links from trade bodies, governing organisations
- Exchange links with competitors, other related sites
- Provide links to relevant authority sites
- Strive to obtain as many high PageRank relevant inbound links as possible

| Tips to Writing Great Content for your Blog or Website |
| 06.28.06 (10:21 am) [edit] |
|
Tips to Writing Great Content for your Blog or Website by David Nicolosi - The next time you visit a website, take a moment to stop and ask yourself "why am I visiting this website?" Chances are your answer is going to have something to do with the content. The fact is, content is king. Having the most unique and informative content that is relevant to your genre of website will greatly increase user retention. We'll discuss some key components to keeping your website content fresh and keeping it relevant!
Choose a Topic You're An Expert In Consider this. You have just discovered the world of online affiliation where you can make money through advertisements placed on your website. You see advertisements on just about every web page on the net these days, mostly in the form of Google AdSense. "Open a Google AdSense account and start earning commissions today!" Sure, it sounds great and it can be very profitable, but the mistakes many new webmasters will make is choosing a market that they feel will make them a quick buck rather than choosing something they are passionate about. The result of this over-enthusiasm for capital gain is typically a website that lacks originality, style, and quality content. You'll find that the key to success is providing users with a quality site where content is your main focus. Once you've established a niche that you feel comfortable in and can showcase a strong knowledge on your subject matter, content will come easy.
Enlist The Help of Ghost Writers Writing quality content can be time consuming. The more ambitious your site is, the more quality content you'll need to provide. Don't be afraid to enlist the help of Ghost Writers to help you fill those empty pages. As long as you enlist the help of others who are experts in your chosen website category, you'll be well off with the additional content writers. Try asking some colleagues if they'll write an article or two, post messages on forums stating that you're looking for a content writer. Of course not everyone is willing to help without some form of compensation. If you site offers services that users typically pay for, try offering those services to a select few friends or colleague for free in exchange for articles and content.
Be Your Own Worse Critic When it comes down to the quality of your content, be your own worse critic. Be nitpicky about every little nuance and aspect of every sentence you write down. Read it several times over, making sure it's relaying effectively the message you're trying to get across. When in doubt, have a friend or co-worker read through your content and get their honest opinions. You only have a few seconds to make an impression on your users, so never publish anything that is less than perfect. Your goal is to make sure your content contains useful and quality information without error before being seen by visitors of your site. Also, make sure to run your article through a spell check (such as with MS Word) before publishing it.
Add Something New Each Day A website that remains static will not retain users. It's fact. For your website to keep generating repeat traffic, you need to give your users something new each day. They will need to see constant changes, new articles, and up to the minute news and information so they will be intrigued in coming back. Never fall into a comfort zone where you feel you can "wait another day" to update your site. You can be sure of one thing, if you're not on top of your website, the competition will be!
Write Your Content For Users, Not Search Engines Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is important to search engines, content is important to users. Do not confuse the two. Content should be written with the user in mind, without thinking about how it will impact search engines. Content written for search engines usually are comprised of keyword stuffing (repetitiveness of key words), which more often that not will make the content neither useful nor particularly enjoyable to read. You will be doing a disservice to yourself and your users if you write your content for search engines.
By focusing on the user you'll soon reap the benefits of quality content that was written with passion and knowledge. Over time you'll find that you'll receive residual traffic as other webmasters link to your site, users post your URL in forums, and word of mouth spreads. Although content is just one component to generating traffic to your site (you still need to apply SEO), it will ensure that the traffic you do get keeps coming back for more. Interested In Increasing Your Search Engine Ranking? by John Hayward - The methods employed to increase your search engine rankings may seem like rocket science to you, so you have probably avoided dealing with this issue. I am here to tell you - the time has come to face your website! A high search engine ranking for your website is so essential that if you have the slightest desire to actually succeed in your business, there is no way you can continue to avoid this issue. At least 85% of people looking for goods and services on the Internet find websites through search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. The idea of optimizing your pages for high search engine rankings is to attract targeted customers to your site who will be more than likely to make a purchase. The higher your page comes up in search engine results, the greater the traffic that is directed to your website. That's what search engine optimization is about. You can immerse yourself in all the technical information available online to figure out how to optimize your web pages to achieve higher rankings. Or you can look at a few simple items on your pages, make some small adjustments, and most likely see improved rankings quite rapidly. The first item you should examine is the title bar on your homepage. The title bar is the coloured bar at the top of the page. Look at the words that appear there when you access your home page. To increase search engine rankings, the words on your homepage's title bar should include the most important keywords or phrases, one of which would include your company name. Then click on all your links and examine the title bars on the pages you access. Each title bar on every single page of your site should contain the most important keywords and phrases taken from the page itself. However, avoid very long strings of keywords, keeping them to six words or less. Avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other. The next item to put under your microscope is your website content. Search engines generally list sites that contain quality content rather than scintillating graphics. The text on your site must contain the most important keywords - the words that potential customers will be typing into search engines to find your site. Aim to have around 250 words on each page, but if this is not desirable due to your design, aim for at least 100 carefully chosen words. If you want to achieve a high ranking on search engines, this text is essential. However, the search engines must be able to read the text, meaning that the text must be in HTML and not graphic format. To find out if your text is in HTML format, take your cursor and try to highlight a word or two. If you are able to do this, the text is HTML. If the text will not highlight, it is probably in graphic form. In this case, ask your webmaster to change the text into HTML format in order to increase your search engine rankings. Next we come to what is called meta tags. I know this sounds like something out of science fiction, but it is really just simple code. Many people believe that meta tags are the key to high search engine rankings, but in reality, they only have a limited effect. Still, it's worth adding them in the event that a search engine will use meta tags in their ranking formula. To find out if your page is set up with meta tags, you must access the code. To do this, click the "view" button on the browser menu bar, and select "source." This will pull up a window revealing the underlying code that created the page. If there are meta tags, they usually appear near the top of the window. For example, a meta tag would read: meta name="keywords" content=. If you do not find code that reads like this, ask your webmaster to put them in. This may not do much for your search engine rankings, but any little boost helps. Lastly, we come to the issue of link popularity. This is a factor that is extremely important in terms of search engine rankings. Almost all search engines use link popularity to rank your website. Link popularity is based on the quality of the sites you have linked to from your links page. If you type in "free link popularity check" in a popular search engine, the search engine will then show you what sites are linked to your site. In the case that there aren't many sites linked up to yours, or that the sites that are linked up have low search engine rankings, consider launching a link popularity campaign. Essentially, this entails contacting quality sites and requesting that they exchange links with your site. Of course, this requires checking out the rankings of the websites you want to link up with. Linking to popular, quality sites not only boosts your search engine ranking, but it also directs more quality traffic to your website. Search engine rankings are extremely important for a successful Internet marketing campaign. Before you go out and hire a search engine optimization company, try taking some of the simple steps listed above, and see if you can't boost your rankings yourself. Don't ever ignore this all-important factor in Internet marketing. Remember, the higher your search engine ranking, the more quality customers will be directed your way. | The secret link building roadmap used by SEOs |
| 06.09.06 (1:53 pm) [edit] |
The secret link building roadmap used by SEOs by noel bautista - Search engines are the front door to the Internet. It is the very first tool that potential customers use to find the products and services they need. This is why search engine optimization is a must and one of the strategies for ranking is through link building. If the customers do not find your website, you have no possibilities of making any sales. Link popularity refers to the ranking assigned to your website by the search engines, and it determines the ranking your page gets when keywords are entered into a search engine. So, you're probably wondering, how do I make my link popular? Search engines are discretionary, giving status and ranking to sites that have links to their pages from related, quality sites. Nobody knows what the exact algorithm used by these search engines. But their goal is simple, to get the most relevant websites on the top of the search engine results. The more commonly used your keyword is, the harder it will be to achieve link popularity, but without achieving this step, it is almost certain your site will never rank highly on any search engine. There are a few things you should be aware of. The first is that just linking up with a large number of other websites will not achieve link popularity. In fact, it may have quite the opposite effect. This is particularly true when pertaining to websites that are nothing more than "link farms" - pages containing line after line of indiscriminate links. Search engines may aggressively discriminate against your website if you are associated with a link farm, so steer clear of them! The next thing to bear in mind is the quality of the site you are linking to. Never link to a page you have reservations about your visitors seeing. The last thing you want your website to appear as is indiscriminate and cheap. Linking to sites of poor quality will only lessen your link popularity, if not completely destroy it. So how do you know if it is a poor quality website? Read their content. Is it something that your visitors would find useful? So what is the best roadmap for link popularity building? The first step, and the fastest way to get your foot in the door, is to get a listing in a popular directory, such as Open Directory Project and Yahoo. If your site is business-related, you will want to be listed on Yahoo, and despite the fact that it will cost you around $300 a year, it will be money well spent. If your site is non-commercial, the listing will be free, but it will take time and follow-up to actually get it listed. Open Directory is gives you a free listing whether you are business-related or non-commercial, but be prepared to make a lot of follow-up inquiries before you see your site listed. The second step after you have attained directory listings is to locate other quality sites to exchange links with. Try to find sites that are in some way related to yours, so not only will your link popularity increase, but your customer base may also be expanded. You want to avoid your competitors and look for sites that are useful to your site's visitors. Obviously, not all sites want to link to other sites, so you will have to do some research when you are looking for possible linking partners. Google is an excellent starting place for your search. Make sure you enter keywords that you think quality customers will also enter to find your own site. After you decide you have found a good prospect, you must set out to woo them. The first thing to do is to add a link on your own links page to their site. This is an essential first step; it shows good faith, and ups your chances significantly of their reciprocity. After you have added their link, you must contact the webmaster of their site. Since this is almost always done by email, you want to make sure it is immediately clear that your message is not junk mail. This requires that you tell them right off the bat that you have added a link to their page on your site. A hook like this almost always insures the reader will read on. Next, be sure to be flattering and let them know how much you appreciate their website. Make sure you emphasize that you have actually visited their site, and that their site is not just a random pick. Say something like "I personally like your logo with your name on it" or something that would really show them that you really visited their site. Give them the address of your links page, and ask them to check out the link for themselves. It's a good idea to mention that they will not only benefit from the increased traffic your website will direct their way, but you will also increase their link popularity. Briefly, explain why link popularity is so essential, but do this in a sentence or two so you don't sound like a professor! Finally, tell them you would greatly appreciate if they would reciprocally add a link on their own links page to your website. Repeat this process with as many appropriate sites as you can find, bearing in mind the criteria of quality and non-competitiveness. After you have emailed all relevant sites, be sure to check these website frequently to see if they have added a link to your page. Give it about a month, and if no link appears, try another charming email. Then give it another month, and if your site is still absent from their links page, it's time to remove their link from your own links page. Be sure to set up a schedule to check your ranking in search engines frequently to see if your link popularity has improved. This is not achievable in the blink of an eye. It will take some time and a good deal of work. There is no way around the labor-intensive quality of improving your link popularity, which is why search engines regard it with such importance. The secret is that there is no secret to link building. You just have to really work for it. You can also outsource it to some country with cheap labor. Not of course you want a black hat alternative. Noel Bautista is a search engine optimizer, and internet marketer. | Getting Started With Google Adsense |
| 06.06.06 (11:44 am) [edit] |
|
Getting Started With Google Adsense by Douglas Titchmarsh - It's probably one of the hottest topics out there, and with good reason. Where else can you get paid over and over again for doing something once? Of course I'm talking about Googles Adsense program, for website publishers who don't mind placing a small bit of code into their sites to show ads in return for a share of the profits. It's relatively easy to get started with Google Adsense, as all you need to have is a website or blog on which to show the Adsense ads, and a Google Adsense Publishers Account. To get an Adsense account you need to go to Google.com/adsense and apply for an account, as long as your website complies with their terms, you will be accepted and be able to log in to create your Adsense ads. If you don't have a website, you can setup a blog for free at http://www.tBlog.com" title="http://www.tBlog.com" target="_blank"http://www.tBlog.com - http://www.blogger.com" title="http://www.blogger.com" target="_blank"http://www.blogger.com or http://www.beeplog.com" title="http://www.beeplog.com" target="_blank"http://www.beeplog.com put up some content, and submit this. Blogger.com is also owned by Google, and some people claim this gives you a better chance of acceptance, whether it does or not you decide for yourself. On the other hand Blogger is VERY quick (too quick many say) in erasing any blogs in case somebody flags them for bad content or abuse of spam, and the blogmaster is never notified about the issue. This means even if you are NOT spamming, if any bad competitor of enemy of yours flags your account against Google for misuse of whatever kind, chances are very high that Blogger will erase your account without any single notification or warning to you. All your blogentries, work and efforts will be gone in a single minute. To avoid this dang er and to be on the safe side we recommend better to sign up with tBlog.com or Beeplog.com that seem to be the two best free blogspace alternatives to us. They both of course fight spam as well, but are not too fizzled about any small mistake one may do. Also you´ve got more detailed setup and design features to include your ads in easily, is it AdSense or any other sort of advertisement. For the next part, once you are logged in you need to choose what type of ads to display, link units are just one line links to sites related to your sites keywords, ad units are the blocks of code you see everywhere with a short description, a link and a url for each site advertised. Once you have chosen which ad type to display, you can then choose the size and format of the Adsense box. This is where you must make a decision to ensure it fits in with your site, where you are going to place it. Be aware that irregular sized and shaped adsense boxes work better than the regular ad sizes, 468x60 is immediately picked up as an ad due to banners being this size for so long online and has a low clickrate, while the 336x280 and 300x250 adsense blocks work much better. There is also some arguments as to whether you should blend the ad into your site by using the color palette Adsense gives you to edit the ads colours to make the colours the same as your site, or to make them stand out by making them a different colour, this will depend on your site, and you can test to see what works best. After you have setup the format, colour scheme and type of ad, you will get the code to add to your site. Before you go ahead and paste it in, it's a good idea to setup channel tracking. Setup different channels named so that you will know what it is about, and this will enable you to track which ads are working, on which sites by changing them around, and tagging them with different channel ID's. This is one of the most overlooked parts of Adsense, the ability to track your ads through channels affords you the ability to test and tune to get the ideal colours, and placement for your adsense blocks. Adsense does a good job of finding ads related to your site, and you have no input into what will be shown. Sometimes it gets confused, so you may have to tweak your sites copy to make the keywords more prominent so Adsense can do a better job of targeting your visitors with the ads displayed. Obviously the better the ads target your visitors, the more relevant they will be and the better the clickthrough rate. As we already said, Adsense is a great way to make some income, and some people are even making a good living from it, it's residual income, fairly easy to setup and low maintenance. If nothing else it will help pay the hosting fees for your website, so why not get started with Google Adsense today? | How to Run an Online Contest on Your Website |

How to Run an Online Contest on Your Website by Erum Zehra - A contest is a great way to attract traffic to your website. However, handling contests manually can become very difficult if you receive a huge number of entries. Here's a secret: You can use follow up autoresponders to automate the dreary tasks involved in running a contest. All you have to do is set up your contest once and the follow-up autoresponder will take care of the rest. Choose an autoresponder service The first step is to get an autoresponder service. You need a service with the following features: Personalization You should be able to place codes in your message which get replaced by the subscriber's info. This way the message will have their name and other details. Subscription Form The autoresponder should let you generate a subscription form with multiple fields. You should be able to add your own custom questions to the subscription form. Automated and Manual Messages You should be able to set up autoresponder messages and send out manual messages. (Ecourse wizard at this URL: http://www.ecoursewizard.com/features.php" title="http://www.ecoursewizard.com/features.php" target="_blank"http://www.ecoursewizard.com/... offers all the above features and a lot more) Set up the contest form Decide on the questions you will ask your contest participants. Then enter these questions in the custom fields of your autoresponder service. A sign up form containing these questions will be generated. Place the code of this form in the HTML coding of your web page and upload it. Your contest questionnaire will appear on your website. Make sure you inform your visitors that entering the contest will also subscribe them to your list. Set up your welcome message Set up a "welcome message" or a "thank you message" for entering the contest in your autoresponder account. This will be pasted in the first window of the autoresponder message sequence. It will be sent immediately when someone fills and submits your contest form. You can add more messages and set up the number of days after which each message will be sent. These can be a follow-up of your contest or any other info you want to pass on to the contest entrant. Personalize your messages Most autoresponder services let you customize the emails that go out by putting in generic fields like ~~First Name~~ which will get replaced by the first name of the contest entrant. They will think you sent them a personal message and pay more attention to it, when in reality the whole process is automatic. How the process works If people want to enter your contest they will have to fill up the contest form. As soon as they fill the form and send it, they will receive the first autoresponder message. They will keep receiving the follow-up messages that you have added after your welcome message until they unsubscribe or the message sequence comes to an end. Ending the Online Contest The announcement of the winner or the ending of the contest can be sent via the manual message option in your autoresponder account. You can also personalize this manual message. Gather valuable visitor information When your visitors enter your contest, their answers will get saved. You can view all the information they submitted in your autoresponder account. (You can also download this information). Once the contest is over you will have the whole list of contest entrants saved in your autoresponder account. You can now send them manual messages and manage them easily, through the autoresponder service. You can gain a huge number of subscribers to your list in this way, and use this list to promote your product or service. | The Da Vinci Code of Search Engine Optimization |
| 06.03.06 (6:08 am) [edit] |
|
The Da Vinci Code of Search Engine Optimization by Christopher Conlan - I recently signed a new client for Search Engine Optimization Services (that's what we do). The problem, same as always was she wanted $10,000 worth of optimization on a $200 a month budget. I was groovin' on her style and liked her can do attitude. We put together a program. She has a unique selling proposition, competitively priced products, and is in a relatively crowded marketspace. Her website was built on the cheap, but is structurally sound. She's been playing around with FrontPage and can at least create new pages from old ones, change images, add new content and publish her changes. Sounds good so far. Right? Just enough knowledge to get into trouble! Leonardo Da Vinci once said "Savage is he who saves himself". So in the spirit of Hollywood here's the Da Vinci Code for helping out your SEO Expert, reducing your Search Engine Positioning costs and maximizing your website return on investment. This is a recipe so to speak, so follow the instructions. Da Vinci Code #1 Existing Content. Using your favorite HTML editor (we'll use FrontPage for this exercise) do some basic on page SEO. Using the bold feature (the "B" at the top of the page) bold the keywords in your content. Don't do crazy, but try to "highlight" at least 3 or 4 times per page. Feel free to mix it up for readability and use italics instead of bold (the "I" at the top of the page). Just like your reader, the search engines take notice of words in bold and italics when used for emphasis. Da Vinci Code #2 Find the hidden treasure in your images. Search engines could care less about your images or what your site looks like. To them they're just code. So give them the code they're looking for. Using the right click button, right click on your favorite image, select "Picture Properties", click on "General". Give your image a name related to your keywords, example: search_engine_optimizatio n.jpg. Put at least one keyword in the "text section", then write a keyword rich description of the image. Now the search engines can read the "code" of your image. Da Vinci Code #3 New Content. Hopefully your SEO Expertwill have done some in depth keyword research for you. Pick 10 keywords that you want to target. Now create a page for each keyword set. Start creating a new page of content from one of your existing pages in FrontPage by highlighting the HTML file in the left hand column. Right click and select "New from Existing Page". This preserves your existing layout and saves you from having to recreate a whole new layout/theme if you're not experienced with CSS. I know that every SEO guru and web design grandmaster's head just exploded, but remember this is YOU saving YOU, not THEM billing YOU. You can fix the architecture when you start realizing gains from your efforts. Start writing. I prefer to divide my keywords up into three tiers. (1) The keyword you use thematically throughout your site - the tough one that everybody is chasing (link a few of these back to your home page - see #4). Example: Search Engine Optimization is a tier one word. (2) The keyword that THIS page is about Example: Pay Per Click. (3) A localized version of both - Example: Arizona Search Engine Optimization and Scottsdale Pay Per Click. Da Vinci Code #4 Link Building. Charity begins at home. Make sure you have an internal linking strategy. Link back from internal content pages to your home page or to other internal content pages. In Front Page, make sure to take advantage of the Screen Tip function (in the top right hand corner of the hyperlink popup box). Put in the keyword relevant to that hyperlink. Link building is a science to a certain degree, but you can help out your SEO Expert by going old school. Ask your suppliers, customers and friends who have websites to link to your site - then mix and match when those sites are linking to your site. Don't have every link go straight to your home page. Da Vinci Code #5 Become an Expert. Believe it or not, someone out there actually is looking for the knowledge and experience you already have. Write an article for your blog, share it with your competitor, syndicate it (ask your SEO or emarketing consultantant about strategy here). This is great for the double whammy of link building and traditional "how to" marketing. Check out Ezinearticles.com or GoArticles. They are good places to start becoming an expert. Include these "articles" or "press releases" as new pages of content on your site. If you are willing, and have the time, you can help your SEO Expertmake you successful and reduce your costs. Always remember that Search Engine Optimization is an ongoing process and results take time, so be patient. And be savage about it!

| Why are Search Engines Purging ODP Clone Websites? |
| 06.02.06 (9:31 am) [edit] |
|
Why are Search Engines Purging ODP Clone Websites? by Megrisoft Team - There are lot of websites which are fully or partially clone of ODP (Open Directory Project). These websites or part section of websites, which are using ODP script to reformat the data on there site are useless and they have no original new contents. It is learnt that search engine specially Google is purging or banning such kind of sites. Why search engines are against Dmoz clone sites? Is the data in them not worthwhile or are they been misused by site owner's? We will try to find our reason, but before that let us first understand all about Dmoz Directory
What is Dmoz Directory (ODP) The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory on the web. It is owned by "Time Warner" and constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors, and is truly unique in many ways. The Open Directory, also known as DMOZ (the domain name of ODP), is a large, categorized directory of websites and pages, which is staffed by volunteers. Every website and page that is added to the directory has to be manually reviewed before it is included. Since its index is manually constructed and edited, categorization and relevancy is superior to any other index of its kind and equally as unique, is the fact that this data is open and free to the public for replication. As of July 2005, ODP had about 4.6 million listings organized into over 580,000 categories derived from the contributions of some 69,000 editors.
How is this free data been used to make Dmoz Clone? There are a lot of ODP scripts to make clone of the ODP. These scripts enables you to add live data of the Open Directory Project at dmoz.org to your own website using a very easy to customize template based system. Users can browse and search categories of websites. These scripts that grabs live contents of the Open Directory dynamically and formats them to make your own version of the Open Directory. These are small scripts have few files to just uploaded on your server and you can get Thousands of Dmoz directory pages on your site in your own templates design. These scripts just get live data from Dmoz.org and it has no original new contents.
Does Dmoz Clone bring traffic? Webmaster do not like Dmoz clone websites as they have not original content rather have duplicate contents and no body will like to link a site or vote a site which has duplicate contents. Most people will not even browse your directory. Most people will just browse 2-10 pages of your directory, they will just leave and never come back.
Why Search Engines are against Dmoz Clone?
There are various reasons which are explained as:
- There is no Original Content which is required to make a Quality Site.
- Duplicate contents as all scripts extract live data from Dmoz and create thousands of similar pages on the web.
- The Dmoz directory has more than 580,000 categories If thousands of site will grab the live contents from Dmoz it will results into creation of millions of similar pages which is making web a junkyard of similar pages with nothing new.
- The Dmoz clone sites has thousands of pages created on fly with no extra hardwork and lot of spammer are using it for advertising or Google adsense program
- The lot of webmaster has just created a section of Dmoz to get inbound links from thousands of pages to increase link popularity and search engine ranking
- Text link advertiser also created Dmoz clone to sell links on thousands of pages to increase artificially link popularity of text link ads buyers.
Which kind of Dmoz clone Search Engine's will Like Search engines are concerned with presenting quality results to there users If you can modify and enhance the data retrieved from Dmoz and present in unique format it will definitely be preferred by Search Engines, Webmaster and Web Surfers. Google has got its own directory for which it has got data from Dmoz but enhanced by Google technology i.e ranking of sites on each directory page by Page Rank.
Using ODP Clone Scripts just to make simple odp clone will get your site banned from search engines due to duplicate contents. Therefore it is advised not to use this virtually useless script on important sites or sites that rank well on search engines. Lot of ODP Clone Scripts makers sites were banned, because too many websites with duplicate content ( as they all have Dmoz clone) were linked to them. These scripts owner require there site URL to be linked at the footer as "Powered by ..." Which results into link farming or inbound links from similar pages.
Therefore if you want your site or directory to be safe and run for longer times then have original and unique contents in it which will not only make it rank but also get good traffic on your site and increase its popularity.

| Free Website Traffic for your Internet Business, Blog or Homepage |
| 05.30.06 (11:50 pm) [edit] |
|
Free Website Traffic for your Internet Business, Blog or Homepage by Interne1 - There have been lot´s of post written here in the Blog about how to increase traffic to your blog or homepage with no or at least little cost involved. Here are some more thoughts of mine about this issue: Everyone wants to know how these websites get to the top of the search engines for a keyword. After all if you are going to start a home business, you will need to do this. These are tested tips that actually work. For an example visit www.msn.com and do a search for affiliate cash vault. You will see that my site www.internet-business-at-home .com is ranked at #2 for that keyword. Here is how I did it: 1. Page Design You need to have your keyword scattered throughout the page that you want to rank highly for that keyword. Title is very important. The title is what is at the top usually in the blue bar at the top of the window. For example if you visit google.com the title is Google - Microsoft Internet Explorer (Microsoft Internet Explorer is just letting you know which browser you are using, that is not the title) So, use a title that involves your keyword, it may not necessarily be your domain name. Use your keyword a few more times throughout the content of the page, but don't overdo it. If you read it out loud and it sounds funny, you probably used the keyword too much. Just try to make it flow naturally. Another important thing is to have somewhere near the top of the page your keyword in a larger font. So now we have your keyword in the title, in a large font near the top of the page, and scattered about your page. 2. Back Links Get some links that point toward the page you want at the top of the search engine. A great way to do this is by blogging. Use blogger.com or you can use writingup.com. Both work well. Another way to do this is by asking other webmasters with similiar content as your site to exchange links with you or just give you a link. You must have good content or the other person probably won't link to you. 3. Submit your site Submit your site to the search engines about 1 time per month. So do google, yahoo, msn.com so it will get indexed. I do manual submission so I know that it gets done. Well there are your 3 steps to ranking higher for your Internet Business Homepage Review-Script.com - Professional Amazon-Like Review, Rating and Comment Scripts for your Homepage, that are adding new fresh and unique content to your website automatically! Ad Some Killer Ways To Generate Quality Links To Your Site by Akash Kumar 4 Killer Ways To Generate Quality Links Whether you are a large corporate or a small one, if you need to rank high in a search engine you need to work hard on link building. Link popularity is the single most important factor that can effect your rankings in a search engine. But always remember that quality is not in quantity. For generating quality links you should be loaded with tons of creative ideas and helpful tools to make your link building campaign easier. If you are one of those dude's who think that getting your site listed in thousands of FFA sites will boost your rankings, then beware they can't do you any good but can do a lot of harm. So, you would ask that how can I build quality links then, here are some quick tips for quality link building which I personally use for boosting up my link popularity for my website. 1. Emphasize Text Because Content Is King! The first step in a link building process is to have a good website loaded with tons of quality content and high quality services if your site lacks in quality content then make it one and if you want, take the help of an experienced copy writer with a good track record. For a successful link generation campaign a rich content is a must for any website, without that you can suffer collecting links. Why? Because people want a reason to link to you, if you not have content why would someone like to you. If you are finding a copywriter who can do the job for you mail us at support@vistadivine.com and we can recommend you some very professional copywriters with a good track record. 2. If You Want To Earn Something Stay Ready To Give Something This is true. If you want to gain something you will have to invest something (not your money) give your visitors a solid reason to link to you, give some thing as a reward to the people who are willing to link to you. As an example - Suppose that your website sells PHP, ASP, ASP.net and other scripts then just give some free scripts as a reward to the people who are willing to link to you. Or, if you sell other services then just give your customers a discount for linking to your website in exchange. 3. Article Writing As a Link Building Strategy Article writing is the most easiest and effective way of link building, because if you emphasize on article writing you don't have to ask someone to link to you, people themselves will link to you if your article is to the point an well written. Just write a good article related to your website's topic and just submit it to some article submission site's like: Goarticles, Ezinearticles and etc (always remember to include a link into your byline in your articles). This way each time your article gets published on a site you get a link back to your site, a great thing about this is that you DON'T have to link anyone. 4. Link Exchange Link exchange is an another effective way to generate quality links to your site, but the biggest evil of link exchange is that it is a HUGE time consuming process. If you primarily emphasize on link exchange for generating links to your site then you're making an extra effort. But if you want to learn tips on successful link exchange then the following tips are for you: 1. Create a html page, preferably named as "Resources/Links/Par tners" (to see an example visit http://www.vistadivine.com/resources.html" title="http://www.vistadivine.com/resources.html" target="_blank"http://www.vistadivine.com/re...) and place a link of this page from Index Page of your site. This page should never be more than 1 click away from the index page of your site, else webmasters won't be interested in participating in the reciprocal link exchange program. 2. Always exchange links with websites which have high PageRank (PR) (at least 3-4, the more the better!) (both Index Page as well as Resources/Links Page of the Link Partner's site should have PRs of >=4) 3. Always prefer a text link in comparison to a banner link, where your chance of Google spiders, i.e. Googlebot finding the potential keywords is limited only to the "alt tag" of the banner. Also, Google pays importance to the text of the incoming link/anchor text (i.e. the incoming link text must contain high potential, relevant keywords), so develop a link text with title ("which includes your important keywords") which will help you in Google Ranking. 4. Don't link to anyone because he is linking to you, ONLY provide a link back to someone if he's site is related to yours and it offers valuable content to your visitors and DON'T reject to link a site only because it has a very low PR because today's PR 0 = tomorrows PR 6 (do link them if they offer useful content). Ranking No.1 in MSN in just 7 days! by Akash Kumar Today, many webmasters even experts believe that ranking high in a search engine takes a lot of time and a lot of effort. But is this true, it may be true to you but not to me! "Getting a high search engine ranking is not an overnight game!" this is what I also used to believe that a lot of experts still do but very soon... EVERYTHING CHANGED. This article is all about how I ranked no.1 in MSN in just 7days and how can you do this!
It was 8th,may 2006 when I first submitted my URL to some of the top search engines including Yahoo, Google and... MSN. On 10th, may 2006 I published my whole site and on 15th may I was shocked to see my website on 12the rank for economical search engine optimization and no.1 for economical search engine optimization firm in MSN search. So, what I concluded from it was that my strategy for my website was absolutely correct. So, if it can work for me then why it can't work for you. So What Was My Strategy? A Good keyword research - I performed a very good keyword research using Google and Overture's Inventory tool. If you want to rank high you need to perform a good keyword research because if you are targeting a very competitive keyword and your site is new then you have no chance. Keyword research is what that will bring you targeted traffic so try to perform a good keyword research it's useless to compete for highly competitive keywords just to get high amount of traffic. Don't bother about the traffic they generate just target less competitive keywords and phrases where you have some chance to win the race. Remember slow and steady wins the race. Keyword Density and Utilization - MSN gives a great importance to the keyword density of your page and also to the keyword density in the first 1000 characters used in your web page. Its better to use a density of 4-5%. This why I used my most important keywords at the top of each page which really supports my rankings in MSN. But always remember that stuffing will not give you rankings just be descriptive and focused to your content and you will rank according to what you deserve. Keywords in Title: Title once again, now everyone of you would be knowing that Title is one of the most important ones so, it is strongly recommended that you use your important keywords in the Title tag first and keep the density in the title between 30-40% and always remember to be descriptive rather than filling it with keywords because natural is what that is favored by the search engines. Stuffing keywords in the Title like : <title>SEO, SEO Firm, SEO Services, SEO India</title> will not work except of stuffing you should prefer something like: <title>SEO Firm India Providing Quality SEO Services</title> Keywords Used In Incoming Links To Your Site - Keywords used in incoming links to your site is the most important factor for your ranking. Use the same keywords in your links text that you use in Title, this is what which have boosted my rankings up the order if I remove the keywords from the incoming links then my rankings may drop again. So, the best thing to do when building links is that use your important keywords in the tag rather than using your company name. Example: An Ordinary Link: Vistadivine - an economical search engine optimization firm A Good Link: Search Engine Optimization Firm - an economical search engine optimization firm in India. To see a good example of fully optimized page visit my website http://www.vistadivine.com" title="http://www.vistadivine.com" target="_blank"http://www.vistadivine.com and take a close look at our source code just copy it and open it in an editor like Frontpage or Dreamweaver and you will see the difference. Take a close look at all the things we have used on our pages and try to use it on your website for your keywords. But also remember don't try to be oversmart or don't do anything foolish with MSN, if you have some questions or have some doubt of what to do then just mail me at support@vistadivine.com and I will help you. | Search Engine Friendly Pages |
| 05.21.06 (1:49 pm) [edit] |

Search Engine Friendly Pages by Tristan Jud - Ok it has been awhile since I wrote on this topic. But here goes! Please Note: These are only tips, and will not be enough to provide top positions for desired keywords. If you wish to gain better results please contact me and we can develop a campaign to suite your needs. Meta Tags There are many meta tags you can include in your web page. (For those that don't know your meta tags are included in between the tags of the website). The most important tags to include are Title, Keywords, & Description. The all important Title tag This is really the most important tag to include on your website. A properly optimised website would have different title tags for each individual page. If you notice most of the top search engine results have the keyword your searched for in the title of the website, Sometimes it is even duplicated. It is important to include your desired keyword near the beginning of your Title. Most companies would opt to have there company name as the first keyword in the Title. Although this is pleasing to the eye, it is not to the search engine algorithm's. A title tag limit should be between 70 to 80 characters. The Description tag This tag is important for two reasons. 1. The search engine robot crawls the tag to get an idea of what the page is about. 2. The tag is often shown under the page title in search results. It is important to have a keyword rich description however it must be written in a coherent phrase. The length of a description tag is somewhat of a mystery but we suggest somewhere to the maximun length of 255 characters. Make sure your important keywords are towards the front of the description. As with the title tag a properly optimised website will have different descriptions for each page. Last but not least! The Keyword tag. Although it is tipped that major search engines such as google don't use this meta tag to rank your site, there are still plenty of search engines that do. The idea which is much the same as many of the other meta tags is to put your important keywords up the front. The keywords section should be around 800-1000 characters. This is the estimate provided by some search engines. I personally wouldn't work to hard on this section, but it is important depending on the search engine. If you are using our content management system enter your page configuration administration section, and you can change the meta tags for each page there. If you are interested in our content management system the please contact me. Hope this little guide helps. As I said if you wish to gain better results please contact me and we can develop a campaign to suite your needs. | How bad guys hack into websites using SQL Injection |
| 05.19.06 (1:23 pm) [edit] |
|
THE RICH JERK. How a complete IDIOT makes TONS OF CASH in the Internet - and HOW YOU CAN, TOO !!! Ad How bad guys hack into websites using SQL Injection by Matija SQL Injection is one of the most common security vulnerabilities on the web. Here I'll try to explain in detail this kind of vulnerabilities with examples of bugs in PHP and possible solutions. If you are not so confident with programming languages and web technologies you may be wondering what SQL stay for. Well, it's an acronym for Structured Query Language (pronounced "sequel"). It's "de facto" the standard language to access and manipulate data in databases. Nowadays most websites rely on a database (usually MySQL) to store and access data. Our example will be a common login form. Internet surfers see those login forms every day, you put your username and password in and then the server checks the credentials you supplied. Ok, that's simple, but what happens exactly on the server when he checks your credentials? The client (or user) sends to the server two strings, the username and the password. Usually the server will have a database with a table where the user's data are stored. This table has at least two columns, one to store the username and one for the password. When the server receives the username and password strings he will query the database to see if the supplied credentials are valid. He will use an SQL statement for that that may look like this: SELECT * FROM users WHERE username='SUPPLIED_USER' AND password='SUPPLIED_PASS' For those of you who are not familiar with the SQL language, in SQL the ' character is used as a delimiter for string variables. Here we use it to delimit the username and password strings supplied by the user. In this example we see that the username and password supplied are inserted into the query between the ' and the entire query is then executed by the database engine. If the query returns any rows, then the supplied credentials are valid (that user exists in the database and has the password that was supplied). Now, what happens if a user types a ' character into the username or password field? Well, by putting only a ' into the username field and living the password field blank, the query would become: SELECT * FROM users WHERE username=''' AND password='' This would trigger an error, since the database engine would consider the end of the string at the second ' and then it would trigger a parsing error at the third ' character. Let's now what would happen if we would send this input data: Username: ' OR 'a'='a Password: ' OR 'a'='a The query would become SELECT * FROM users WHERE username='' OR 'a'='a' AND password='' OR 'a'='a' Since a is always equal to a, this query will return all the rows from the table users and the server will "think" we supplied him with valid credentials and let as in - the SQL injection was successful :). Now we are going to see some more advanced techniques.. My example will be based on a PHP and MySQL platform. In my MySQL database I created the following table: CREATE TABLE users ( username VARCHAR(128), password VARCHAR(128), email VARCHAR(128)) There's a single row in that table with data: username: testuser password: testing email: testuser@testing.com To check the credentials I made the following query in the PHP code: $query="select username, password from users where username='".$user."' and password='".$pass."'"; The server is also configured to print out errors triggered by MySQL (this is useful for debugging, but should be avoided on a production server). So, last time I showed you how SQL injection basically works. Now I'll show you how can we make more complex queries and how to use the MySQL error messages to get more information about the database structure. Lets get started! So, if we put just an ' character in the username field we get an error message like You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '''' and password=''' at line 1 That's because the query became select username, password from users where username=''' and password='' What happens now if we try to put into the username field a string like ' or user='abc ? The query becomes select username, password from users where username='' or user='abc ' and password='' And this give us the error message Unknown column 'user' in 'where clause' That's fine! Using these error messages we can guess the columns in the table. We can try to put in the username field ' or email=' and since we get no error message, we know that the email column exists in that table. If we know the email address of a user, we can now just try with ' or email='testuser@testing.com in both the username and password fields and our query becomes select username, password from users where username='' or email='testuser@testing.com' and password='' or email='testuser@testing.com' which is a valid query and if that email address exists in the table we will successfully login! You can also use the error messages to guess the table name. Since in SQL you can use the table.column notation, you can try to put in the username field ' or user.test=' and you will see an error message like Unknown table 'user' in where clause Fine! Let's try with ' or users.test=' and we have Unknown column 'users.test' in 'where clause' so logically there's a table named users :). Basically, if the server is configured to give out the error messages, you can use them to enumerate the database structure and then you may be able to use these informations in an attack. | Correctly Interpreting Your Website Traffic Statistics |
| 05.18.06 (3:20 pm) [edit] |
|
Correctly Interpreting Your Website Traffic Statistics by Mike Tansey Analyzing your web traffic statistics can be an immeasurably important tool for a number of reasons. But before you can manufacturer full use of this tool, you must understand how to interpret the data. Top web hosting companies will provide you with fundamental web traffic data that you then have to interpret and make appropriate use of. However, the data you receive from your host company can be imposing if you don't grasp how to supplicate it to your particular undertaking and website. Let's start by examining the most fundamental data - the general visitors to your site on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. These statistics are the most genuine allowance of your website's performance. It would appear on the surface that the more visitors you see documented, the better you can figure your website is performing, but this is an inaccurate understanding. You must also look at the behavior of your visitors once they get to your website to accurately assess the effectiveness of your site. There is usually a great delusion about what is ordinarily known as "hits" and what is really competent, quality traffic to your site. Hits simply mean the number of information requests received by the server. If you think about the actuality that a hit can readily equate to the number of graphics per page, you will get an impression of how exaggerated the concept of hits can be. For example, if your homepage has 15 graphics on it, the server records this as 15 hits, when in truth we are talking about a single visitor checking out a single page on your location. As you can see, hits are not worthwhile in analyzing your website traffic. The more visitors that turn up to your website, the more genuine your interpretation will become. The greater the traffic is to your website, the more precise your evaluation will be of overall trends in visitor behavior. The lesser the number of visitors, the more a few unorthodox visitors can misrepresent the assessment. The aim is to use the web traffic information to figure out how well or how poorly your site is working for your visitors. One way to ascertain this is to discover how long, on average, your visitors run through your site. If the time spent is comparatively brief, it usually indicates an elementary problem. Then the challenge is to evaluate what that problem is. It could be that your keywords are guiding the wrong variety of visitors to your website, or that your graphics are disorganized or intimidating, causing the visitor to exit quickly. Use the experience of how much time visitors are spending on your site to identify specific problems, and after you fix those problems, continue to use time spent as an estimate of how effective your fix has been. Furthermore, web traffic stats can help you establish effective and ineffective areas of your website. If you have a page that you consider as important, but visitors are exiting it swiftly, that page needs work. You could, for example, evaluate improving the link to this page by making the link more substantial and attractive, or you could reform the look of the page or the ease that your visitors can access the necessary information on that page. If, on the other hand, you notice that visitors are spending a lot of time on pages that you maintain are less essential, you might want to move some of your sales copy and marketing focus to that specific page. As you can see, these statistics will broadcast vital knowledge about the profitability of distinct pages, and visitor habits and stimulus. This is essential information to any effectual Internet marketing campaign. Your website unequivocally has exit pages, such as a final order or contact form. This is a page you can expect your visitor to leave quickly. Nonetheless, not every visitor to your site is going to locate exactly what he or she is looking for, so observations may show you a number of other exit pages. This is customary unless you notice an exit trend on a specific page that is not designed as an exit page. In the case that a significant percentage of visitors are exiting your website on a page not intended for that purpose, you must closely contemplate that particular page to figure out what the difficulty is. Once you identify potential weaknesses on that page, tiny modifications in content or graphics may have a consequential impact on the visitors moving through your site instead of exiting at the wrong page. After you have analyzed your visitor statistics, it's time to turn to your keywords and phrases. Take notice if selective keywords are directing a specific variety of visitor to your site. The more targeted the visitor - implicating that they find what they are looking for on your site, and even better, fill out your contact form or make a purchase - the more profitable that keyword is. However, if you find a great number of visitors are being directed - or should I say, misdirected - to your site by a specific keyword or phrase, that keyword demands modification. Keywords are essential to bringing quality visitors to your site who are open to do business with you. Close evaluation of the keywords your visitors are using to locate your site will give you a fundamental understanding of your visitor's needs and motivations. Finally, if you notice that users are discovering your website by typing in your company name, break out the champagne! It means you have achieved a significant focus of brand recognition, and this is certainly an indication of burgeoning success. Mike has been online since early 2004. This can help you save time whenever you need to adjust your bids, ads, or keywords. Being organized can also help you achieve a higher clickthrough rate (CTR) which means getting the searcher clicking on your ad and becoming a prospect. Organize your account by starting with a campaign name relevant to your product or service. If you were selling inkjet cartridges you could use that as the campaign name or the name of your website as the campaign name. Set up your ad groups so that they are themed. If you were advertising inkjet cartridges and one of the products you are selling is canon inkjet cartridges you could create an adgroup titled "Canon Inkjet Cartridges" and then place relevant keywords in this group. Ad Group Name: Canon Inkjet Cartridges Keywords: canon inkjet cartridges, canon ink, canon cartridges, canon inkjet cartridges online Two reasons for keeping your adgroups organized and themed like this are it is easy to find and adjust the keywords as necessary. It is easy to to put the keyword in the title and body of your ad. It is important to put the keyword in the title and ad because you will achieve a much higher click through rate (CTR) Canon Inkjet Cartridges For huge savings on Canon inkjet cartridges visit us. http://yoursite.com" title="http://yoursite.com" target="_blank"http://yoursite.com If you used the above ad with the keywords in the example your ad would be relevant to the searchers and the keywords in the ad would appear bold to the searchers catching their eye. Let's recap what you just learned. The bold text catches the eye of the searcher. The keyword is relevant to what they are looking for thus increasing the chances of you getting the visitor to your website instead of your competitor getting the visitor. One thing you need to be careful of however is using a trademarked word in your title, description, or as a keyword. Some companies allow you to do this while other companies don't. When in doubt either don't use the trademarked term or contact the company and ask them for permission. One other advantage of having themed adgroups is that Google rewards relevancy. This can improve your quality score and actually reduce the cost that you pay for the click. Your Ad's position will improve. You will get a lower cost per customer acquisition (CPA), a higher clickthrough rate (CTR), more profit and a higher return of investment (ROI). Common Mistakes: Home Page Design by Nicolas Buerki Issue: ====== What pitfalls should companies avoid on their Web, Intranet or portal home pages? Response: ========= The home page of a Web site, Intranet or portal is the most important page. It should tell site visitors, what they can do precisely deeper in the site or at least inform them, what they may be able to expect. However, in most cases, the home page is just a compromise to satisfy internal politics and neglecting site visitors' needs. To set up an effective home page that matches corporate objectives and user's expectations the following pitfalls should be avoided:
1) Too much information instead of links: Many home pages provide detailed information such as complete news, company description, etc. or are overloaded with images. Site visitors do not want to read information on the home page nor guessing what might be hidden behind an image. They want to find a link to start navigating to the information, which they came for. Providing detailed information on the home page limits the space available for valuable links. Further, it increases the risk that site visitors do not even start navigating the site, as they do not find their specific entry point to start their specific action or scenario. There are two types of pages, which apply to any Web applications such as Web sites, Intranets and portals. Those are navigation pages and destination pages. Navigation pages allow site visitors discovering the options to navigate. Destination pages provide the information, which site visitors are looking for. The home page is the ultimate navigation page. It needs to provide as much as possible links to the various Web sections. The Web strategy determines the links from the home page to the site sections. There are two major linking approaches: - - Individual link, which relates to one link for a complete Web section. - - Category links, which is one link to a complete Web section, followed by links to further detail this section (sub-category links). Provide category links for strategic Web sections that you want your target audience to browse and navigate to (for example for IT companies provide category and sub-category links to product and service overviews, customer engagements, download section). Use individual links for Web sections that target secondary audiences (for example company profile or recruitment).
2) Animations / animated links: Even though that usability research clearly shows that animations such as rotating banners, animated text, etc. distracts site visitors, it is still used on many business sites. In most cases, marketing managers request Web designer to implement animations although designers know that animations are more destructive than increasing site effectiveness. Web designers need to clearly explain the differences between offline and online media. In offline marketing, publicity needs to attract the attention of prospects. For example, if you are walking on a street, advertising such as ad posters must attract your attention, as you are not walking down a street to discover ads. In online media, site visitors already decided to go to a Web site with a specific goal in mind (e.g. finding contact, product or support information, etc.). Hence, the Web site does not need to attract the visitor's attention. There are successful concepts to replace animations such as the so-called hooks. Hooks are static images or graphics with a minimum of text to tell site visitors what they can expect by clicking on them. Hooks are not limited to the home page but can be used on all navigation pages. Effective hooks target the page audience (best practice sites: www.cisco.com, www.ups.com/content/gb/en/index.jsx ). Place hooks on the home page that target the prime Web audience, on subsequent navigation pages, refine hooks accordingly to the page audience.
3) Not telling what site users can do on the site: Site visitors do not go unintentionally to a Web site. They have a specific action in mind such as finding pricing information, applying for a job, downloading the annual report, etc. Using action verbs such as download, apply, compare, discover, etc. facilitates site visitors to find immediately the link to start their scenario. Action verbs define further links (for example a link named "product" can be misleading as it does not tell what kind of "actions" will be available such as downloading, comparing, ordering, test driving, etc.). Complementing links with action verbs helps to reduce site visitor frustration and to increase site effectiveness.
4) Missing the home page basics: There are a few usability practices, which Web designer should implement on the home page such as: - - Home page length less than two screens at a resolution of 800x600, best would be to fit within one screen. Place strategic links on the first screen (upper half of the home page, if the home page exceeds one screen), as site visitors generally do not scroll on navigation pages and hence would miss the important links. - - Links to site support tools such as site map or site search. About 30 percent of site visitors prefer finding their information using site search. Therefore it is crucial that Web sites provide search functionality (e.g. the search box) directly from the home page. - - Link to privacy policy from the text navigation at the bottom and link to the company profile (navigation bar and text navigation bar). - - Company logo available in the upper left corner. However, it should not provide an active link on the home page but from any other pages within the site. - - Navigation consistency with the rest of the site. Ensure that the navigation on the home page is consistent with the rest of the site to avoid user confusion. | Methods to build links |
| 05.14.06 (3:40 am) [edit] |
Blogging to the Bank ! How to Earn Huge Affiliate Commissions Using Blogs To Generate Free Traffic.
Methods to build links. By AdrianLink building is an important part of your SEO campaign. Building good quality links will help your website to gain top positioning in search engines There are two kinds of links 1, Reciprocal links 2, Inbound or One-way links. Reciprocal link buildingWhen a owner of another website places a link to your website on his site and you in return place a link to his website on your own website a reciprocal link is established. It is an agreement made between 2 website owners to place exchange links. How to build reciprocal links?Step 1 List out websites with good page rank which are related to your own website. Along with their URL, e-mail ID , Title and description. These details will help you at a later stage to make link requests. Step2 E-mail each of the website owners from your list stating that you have visited their website and interested to exchange links with them. Mention the details about your own website also in this mail. Like the title , URL and the description. Step3 Wait for the website owners to respond to your e-mail. Once you receive a positive response from any of the webmasters add their link to your website and checkout if the webmaster of the other site has added your link to their website. Points to consider while going in for reciprocal link exchange.1, Do not exchange links with websites which is only crowded with links and has no content at all. This kind of websites are called link farms. Links from links farm spoil your ranking on search engines. 2, Exchange links with websites which has a Page rank higher than the page rank of the website of your own. 3, The content of the website you are reciprocating should be related to the website content of yours. 4, The links page of the website you are considering to exchange links should have a link to their links page from their home page. 5, Never exchange links with porn websites, Casio websites, Drug websites, and illegal websites because search engines may penalize your website for exchanging links with illegal websites. 6, Provide minimum of two weeks time for the webmasters of other websites to place your link on their website. Because webmasters of good quality sites are busy people. Inbound linksInbound links are also called as one-way links. Links pointing out to your website from other websites are called one-way links. This kind of links are given more importance by the search engines. It is good to obtain as many one-way links as possible to climb up on search engines. Methods to build inbound links: Directory submission: Submit your website to directories which list your website on their listings. There are hundreds of free directories available on the net which provide one way links. While making directory submissions choose the most appropriate category to which your website belongs this way you increase the chance of your website link being published in the directories. Article submissions: Write useful articles related to the services or products you sell through your website. Do not for get to place text links on these articles pointing out to your website. The text on the link should be a keyword which best suits your website. There are chances that net browsers like to your article or place your article on their website with a link to your website or directly link to your article. This way articles bring in a lot of traffic to your website. Software submission: There are many websites on the net which accept software submissions. If your company has come up with an software you can submit these to the software directories with a download url on your website. This another good way to build one way links. Press release submission: When you launch a new offer or any special event is organized in your company you can write about these and submit to the various websites on the net that accepts news. Or you can make a generous donation to the needful and write an article describing the help you have done to others and submit it to the press release websites. Participate in forums: There are many forums on the net for every category. Each forum is meant for a particular topic. Choose a forum which discusses topics related to your website and participate in the forum by contributing useful information when ever you make a signature make sure you include a link to your website. Create blogs: Create a blog of your own and update the content of the blog frequently this way people will become regular visitors of your blog and place a link to your actual website on the blog and naturally people will start visiting your website too. Search engines give lot of importance to blogs because they contain fresh updated content. You can also submit the RSS feed of your blog to search engines and RSS Directories. Above mentioned are the 6 best methods to build one way links to your website and drive more traffic naturally. One way links also help your website to get on top 10 rankings on all major search engines. Best of luck on building good links to your website. ------------------------- ------------------ Adrian McLean is the founder and Search Engine Marketing Consultant for searchengineoptimising (http://www.searchengineoptimising.com" title="http://www.searchengineoptimising.com" target="_blank"http://www.searchengineoptimi...), a Search Engine Promotion company based in the UK.
